  • A MK1 Scirocco going hoodride status

came across an mk1 that I couldnt pass up. 1980 VW Scirocco Storm, owned by a gentleman in the Army while he was stationed in Germany. less than 90k OG miles, 8V 1.6, new water pump, exhaust, timing belt. full interior. heat and AC. But anyways the good stuff. straight body. and cheap parts hahaha. when i got her:

I'm all for lowering it more, but that looks like way too nice an example of the car to go "hoodride" with it. Don't destroy a perfectly good body just to try to execute a trend. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind the look, but generally only on cars with a natural patina that were destined to rust away anyhow.

I know what you guys are saying and I expected you all to say that. I am all for keeping things mint if they are that way, but this car is a prim example of Rust 101 and shitty bodywork executed by god only knows who. pitted bondo and cancer in a lot of places. It had a single stage maco paintjob that covered it up. I bought the car knowing that it had this. That is why i chose to go "hoodride". I am going to replace my floorpans on the driver side and focus solely on suspension and performance. I may even do a newish interior as well. The earth can have the rest of the car as far as I am concerned. It would cost waaaayyyyy too much to fix all the rust on this car. But I do agree with you all. If Its mint, dont mess with it. this is far from though.. But I did lower the front another 1/2-3/4 of an inch this morning. Looking good in my opinion. yall be the judges.

the car being as old as it is its not gonna be perfect anyways... what we mean is it looks decent enough to keep it that way... if you hood rat status it your still gonna be covering up the same shitty body work that is under the paint now soo honestly why make it worse just too ride some trend fucks nuts????

its ur car man but hopefully you try to preserve this fine rocco

itll look great either way i go. Ill have to get some up close shots to show thee condition of the bodywork and the rust.. Also when i say hoodride, I mean essentially just focusing on the engine and the suspension and leaving the body AS IS. I dont want to destroy it, but the body is too far along to throw tons of money at. I do agree with keeping it mint if its that way though.

Ill leave the paint alone. but the suspension is going low. like that super kind of low where everything becomes a liability. and the engine will probably be built. i am a fan of the rare and i dont see many built 8v engines

Okay just don't purpusefully rust body panels out, that's what I think of when you say hood ride. But I can agree with just leaving the body as is and focusing only on the interior and engine. Basically how my car is. I don't give a crap about the paint, everything else I do though.

                          Clean Scirocco

I never said i was purposely rusting. I actually cannot stand rust, but I will be leaving the paint as is. I want something that will be reliable. something i dont have to worry about falling through at 85 hahahahaha. but its too far along in my opinion to start throwing wads of cash at the body and paint.

but yeah, when i think of hoodride, I just think of keeping the body the way it is if it has badness on it. but i wont purposefully rust out the body. I don't follow trends like that. If its ok then dont make it worse
