  • '85 Passat (Quantum) Variant Syncro 32b

last friday I became the prowd owner of a '85 VW Passat (Quantum) variant syncro with 2.2 litre 5 cylinder lump and 50-50% 4 wheel drive. the stuff from an audi 80 quatro. 136 horses under the bonnet or hood, but I'm sure some of them have escaped but it still surprised me how fast and responsive this beast is...
it's in a pretty battered state but what do you ecspect after 27 years of use and abuse. so first I will fix al the rust spots and make sure it's reliable. I'll built in a lpg system because the gasprices over here are ridiculous! about $9.15 per gallon. and lpg costs $4.39 per gallon and the way I drive I burn a lot of fuel so that first. after that i will take on all the rust and make it run properly. and after that, we'll see! cause I don't have a lot of money this will be a slow build. I'm a single profider and I have to take care of Two hungry youg boys :p but everytime I've done something to the car I will post it here!

first some pictures of how it looks now.

the first upgrade I wil make is this one

a jdm 5 panel rearview mirror...

and sinds I really like the look of the adams rotors Audi I ordered some jdm hood mirrors

they are going on there wheather you like it or not.

I'm always open to sugestions so feel free to comment on my posts.

    regards, Frans

So, it's been more than 4 months since my last (and only) update. I've put about 8000 km (little less than 5000 mi) on the clock, put in a new radiator and that's about it. Until something sad happened. The other day I came from work and my mind wasn't where it should have been... long story short, the car is a bit shorter... I planted it in the car in front of me. Luckily this tank does not have much of a crumple zone so the damage is not too bad.
Because the front of my car was in a sorry state I bought a new front, grill, hood and front and rear bumper. I also picked up rubbers and seals for all 4 doors. Luckily everything was pretty cheap.

            I'll put up some photos.
Sorry for the cellphone pics... gas and parts keep me from buying a decent camera.

Now some pic's of the sorry state of the front...

Don’t have any pics of the crumpled old hood, didn't take any and left the old one with the guy who sold me the new one and was friendly enough to help me put the new hood where the old one once was. First tried to put the hood in the car but it was just a bit too big.

Bumper alignment is also a tad bit off...

The rear bumper also was way off... the guy who sold me the front bumper also had one for the rear so I was more than happy to take it of his hands.

Only one of the lenses broke, lucky me, they are very hard to come by I've been told... all the lights still worked though!

And because I was going for a bit of a JDM theme (bring on the ****) I didn't bothered to try and find me a replacement. Will make a duct or something to put hoses trough for a front mounted oil cooler (when I find the time and money)

When I unloaded that yellow piece of crap I found a nice bonus!

Don't know how it got there but I think I will leave it there! :p

Then, when I'd unloaded everything I decided to put on the "new" rear bumper...

And because it was already getting dark I don't have pics of how it turned out! Will make and post some soon!

            Also put on these

And swapped the white bulbs in the headlights for yellow one's

Doesn't really show on the picture but it's a world of difference!

Now I have to find the time to fix the front... probably do a quick fix first by trying to bend all sheet metal back in place and fit the bumper and grill.

I'll try to post my next post a bit sooner! :p

            That’s it for now!
