The people who know me know I dont pay full price for anything and even had a Golf that only cost $180, but this, this makes that deal look pricey. Presenting my fresh off the lot 1992 VW Corrado VR6. The story goes like this:
A hot Saturday in May, im bored at a FedEx BBQ that my Brother in Law had to go to for work. I sit down with my Mountain Dew and my Burger and pop open the Craigslist app on my phone. I type in Jetta and start browsing. Not expecting to find my friend Brad (Nothingman on Vortex) is selling his super clean Jetta. Immediately I sent him a message because I was interested in his car so I could strip its goodies and sell it for less with my parts. We arrange to meet up at the dealership he works at and I begin looking at his Jetta. My brother in law notices the Corrado and ask how much and whats wrong with it. Brad informed us that the motor is blown and the owner is looking to get rid of it. After looking at Brads Jetta we part ways. Later that night Brad texts me saying the Jetta was sold. Here's the silver lining, Monday morning I get a text "$100 and the Corrado is yours." Without a second thought, or brushing my teeth, i hop in my car and bomb down to Elk Grove VW. There Im greeted by Brad who takes me to see the owner Richard. Really cool guy, we chit chat a bit and my buddy Don, who also works at the dealership, comes by so we all BS a little. I pay the money and become a proud Corrado owner.
Its was a big moment for me, Ive wanted one of these since I saw one as a kid in Austria.
How it sat waiting for me at the dealership.
Had to have some old school parts for it. Wanted these since the moment I saw them plus I dislike door mounted mirrors.
Then I started buying wheels for a car that didn't run.
18x8 ET35 5x112 Borbet Type R. These were nice but 18s seem too big and since I am 5x100 I decided not to go for those.
Then Borbet Type A's were next. 17x7.5 just wasn't wide enough though.

Then naturally like everyone else I bought some Salad Shooters. Full set of 16x8.5's. But these don't seem to do the car justice and just take away from the whole vibe I want the car to have. (They're FS now)

All this wheel switching now brings us here. I said screw it and broke the bank for some BBS RS' from a Porsche. Either have to redrill or trade faces. I want some flat caps later.
16x7 ET23
16x8 ET11

All of this wheel whoring but the mechanical side needs love too. This is where my hands get dirty. Plan is to do a full rebuild on it. Every motor component will either be remachined and cleaned up or replaced. Everything suspension and brake etc.. on the bottom side is getting replaced. From bushings and bearings to pads and rotors. I bought a seperate motor to learn on and use as a donor if some parts are in better shape than others such as the block or head. Every seal and bolt will be replaced and I'm using ARP everything to ensure long life. Also it will get the proper fluids from day 1, G12 and ELF 5w40. Here's some pictures of the progress I made taking the front end off and disassembling the motor.

Exterior plans:
Put on my CX Racing Coilovers
Optiwerks side skirts
E Codes with French bulb covers
Yellow Lamin X Fogs
Fresh Silver Paint Job
Deeper Lip
Maybe Audi Handles
Interior:
I'm just going to try to source better condition OEM seats in the same tan color and wrap the headliner to match.
Just keep it OEM and add a MK3.5 Steering Wheel which I have.
That's where the project sits now. As money rolls in i'll be doing maintenance and bringing it to life.
