  • Team Chihuahua's MX5 MKII Mini Project

While I wait for the RX8 to come back. Kieran a mate of mine wanted a hand with his MK2 MX5 so I said why not, started off with simple plans so here are the pic's :

The base, 14" alloys, coilovers and splitter :

Decided to clean up the headlights :

And get her into the garage to roll the arches at the rear :

Next up was flush out the reflectors, boot lock using fibreglass matting, 50/50 mix of filler / fibreglass and then filler for the final coat :

And the licence plate holder :

Then decided to fit electric leather RX8 seats to the car :

Got bored with that so finished off the bumper and primed it :

And got a pic of the wheels off Kieran :

    Cool centre cap :

Adapters on to fit the 4x114.3 :

    This will be tight :

Yep, too tight on crap tires, time for new tires before I roll teh arch anymore :

Car has got fangs but looking cool all the same :

Time to wire the seats, balls :

Time to do a little more bodywork, flush the wings, prime them and the boot lock flush :

    Repair the splitter :

Paint the fangs red outta boredom LoL

Hey fella, ya the car is staying white however it will be swapping over to Toyota 040 Super White

Cleaned up the front panel to see how good the paint was under the grit :

So while I was waiting on tires I decided to piss about with the centres :

Even Romeo had an auld gander :

So a quick text to Kieran and it was decided to expand the build a little :

Some MK1 arches that will need to be modified to fit properly :

And out with the grinder to give another 3" of clearance :

So the passenger real wheel was way off, soon figured out why :

            Right :

            Very Wrong :

So all set up correctly decided to get a few quick pics in the sun as the clearance issues were not sorted, bumpers trimmed, splah guards removed and chassis rail modified to suit...

So the rear looked a bit naked, had an RX8 spoiler left over from my own car so I will be cutting it up to reshape and fit to the MX5, hopefully works out according to plan

Got onto Brian for another bonnet skin, should look well with the standard hump in the middle once finished :

Will more than likely loose the frame underneath...

More cutting to do but you get the idea...

Chopped the bonnet, got the vents bonded and pop riveted on... Its ground down now and ready for filler / fibreglass :

Chopped up the RX8 spoiler and now have it flush with the lines of the car :

Pulled the car out to have a quick look at the overall presence :

RX8 spoiler is now a three piece jobbie and has been fibreglassed back together, will be reinforced from underneath and finished off by the weekend.

Put a few hours into the spoiler and bonnet so here ya go, spoiler not finished completely but almost there :

Repaired all the rough spots on the rear bumper last night and primed them up, also primed the front splitter :

She is all happy again, big smiles

Got a dacant set of honda alloys bud to hold her off the ground while I start into the refurb of the Dori's :

Decided to clean up the lines on the overfenders and fill in the gaps, threw a bit of primer on just to make sure they look right :

Wet sanded the bonnet and gave it a shot of primer also :

Used some acid primer to cover up any bare metal that was cut for the over fenders

This is like a bloody jigsaw with all the bits LoL

For the most part I'm done now with the car, back bumper is primed, corner pieces from the spoiler are primed up, over fenders have been refitted to make sure they look right. So she is sitting pretty waiting to go to the panel beater tonight. The car will get a full shot of debeers 2pac primer and then block it all down before paint...

I'll have my garage back and be able to give it a good clean now, happy days Next up, the new project before the RX8 comes back...

Thanks I just spent an hour here and there in the evenings tipping away, think the whole lot only took about 46hrs which is still alot, could have done it quicker but like I said, was just tipping away so as not to get bored... Once painted it'll be off to the fabricators for new engine and gearbox mounts for the 231bhp RX8 engine and box
