Hey guys, its been a while. I have been productive however. I have been wanting to do a coilover conversion for a long time now and I finally got the will to follow through with it. Its been snowing a lot so the timing is good.
So I bought some MK2 kyb strut inserts and some 240sx sleeves because the inner diameter is the same. That cost about 135. The whole goal of this project was to shorten the strut so I could be low while still maintaing some travel. (allowing the strut to actually work properly).
It turned out to be a pain. turns out the front strut is tapered becuase of the insert nut. Also the sleeve wouldnt fit over the nut and the MK2 insert didnt fit at all. It was way too loose and too short (duh) so it wouldnt work with the nut. soooooooo this happened...
I took it to a buddy of my dads that has all sorts of fancy tools to basicly fabricate anything imaginable. He whipped my struts out no sweat. What we ended up doing was cutting the housing, welding and shortening the whole insert. He make a perfect perch where the welds for the old one were, also he machined the nut down so the sleeve could be slid over. The insert still didnt fit right though, so he made a spacer so it would fit snug with the housing. I really shouldve gotten pictures of everything, but shooo.
I spun the coils up at first because I thought I was gunna be real low. Turns out that wasnt the case. I actually had wheelgap. So I spun em down.
I'll get pictures someday. I didnt get pics of the rear suspension because its pretty self explainatory. The sleeve litterally just slides over the strut and sits on the stock perch. Whammmy.

Its been a while, but dont worry I have been working on the e28... A ton.
Test fitted these. Liked them, bought them.
They were pretty nasty, like really nasty. Max's ignant fangers even drew on em.
Pokemon 1st gen baby.
So I attempted to strip them. I used aircraft stripper, and reapplied like 3 times and even used a pressurer washer. It helped. but these wheels had such thick paint on em, and the shooters where hard to get into with stripper, so I gave up and sent em to armadillo for some sandblasting.
All sandblasted.
Paint time... We painted the whole thing gold at first (same color as my 15in weaves), them masked the shooter part, which sucked.
red...
Then I did some goofin and test fit with Alex's huge 50mm spacers.
Hello poke. I loved it but it would require a lot for fender shenanigans. Good thing my car was so high...
I traded my homie brandon some headlights and grills for some 15mm and 20mm spacers.
It was time for low
Cut sleeves. Dont worry, made em look nicer.
Then I cut my super stiff jdm spring yo. 2 coils off.
Set the car on the ground with the coils all the way down, 20mm spacer rear, 15 front. Golly Gee this happened.
I about passed out. Litterally perfect. So close to the fender, but didnt rub and never bottomed out.
But. It was too low. It took forever to even get the car off the rack. I didnt realize how much lower the 16s with 205/40 would take me. My exhaust was on the ground, no joke. Scraped while driving. Needless to say I was bummed, but it looked so darn nice.
I just need to get my exhaust fixed. Ive been putting it off for so long, it has so many holes, sounds bad and hangs like 1in+ lower than my frame rails. I shold be able to go back to this amazing hieght once I get the exhaust sorted. For now, though, I raised my coils, pretty much as high as they go, just wanted to drive ja know?
New ride height...
Thats all.Last edited by Wyatt Lay; 01-28-2013, 11:43 PM.
