New Guy: Very rare, low slow BMW. Fitment question

Hey everyone,
I'm new to SW. Here is my 1995 BMW 318ti Clubsport (1 of 271 ever built). It's pretty stock right now. All that I've changed on the car is H&R race springs and bili-sports, 95 M3 grille mesh, M3 sport lip and GT corner splitters, fog light deletes (they broke), and an E92 M shift knob.
The guy before me put cross-drilled BavAuto front rotors on the car. Not sure why.

What brings me to you guys is my current dilemma; I have these horrendous stock 5-spoke e36 sport wheels and they gotta go. I'm picking up a set of E38 style 5's that are 16x8, et23, and I do not know what tire size I should go with to avoid or minimize rubbing.

I never planned on stancing this car or dumping much money into it, since I really just bought it to commute through Atlanta traffic and get beat on, but I lowered it on the H&R's and now I want flush style 5's, and I'm looking at building an M52 stroker... I like the car too much and shit's getting out of hand.

Anyway, any help is much appreciated and here are the pics (so that I don't have to GTFO)

Love the Jet pic. I'd recommend an M50 swap for sure. The torque will really make you happy. Not to offend the m42 but it but isn't very fun to drive because you have to rev over 4k to get anywhere. I don't think I can ever go back to a 4 cyl.

Oh, no offense taken. My username is PhilipWOT because driving with both throttles wide open is the only way to get this car to move out of it's own way, I bought it after my built 95 M3 got totaled.

I'm picking up either an E46 M3 or a Z4MC in the next year, and I really didnt buy this car to be fast. I just like driving the damn thing so much that it will probably end up with an M52 before it's all over.

Alpina B10 wheels and an ac schnitzer rear lip would look sick on a compact.

Always thought a riviera blue or laguna blue compact would look sick, there are too many red e36's.

They made a handful of Avusblau compacts. They're tough to find.

Now then, I've got 195/45/16s on them, eibach pros wound all the way down on the front, with adjusters and spring seats out of the back, running 8mm spacers at the back and I want to space the front out 10mm or so. I'll link you to more photos later as I can't do it off my phone for some reason!

Thanks for the info. Are the spacers necessary to clear on the inside, or is that just for maximum flushability? I have h&r race and bili sports, so I'm guessing I'll have more fender clearance than you do.

UPDATE

17x8, et33 Jaguar XJR wheels, because fuck it


Initial fitment test with the ginormou8s reverse-stretched 255/45/17 Perelli;s that I found on the car. (They scrubbed like a motherfucker and rubbed my virgin un-rolled fenders)



Same fitment test. That offset makes my mangina wet. (Please ignore my busted ass nose panel)



So I threw one of them in my trunk and drove over to the BMW dealer where one of my friends works with CPO cars and has access to a lot of tires. We finally mounted a 225/45/17 on the wheel and here is the finished product of our final fitment test.
I'll have the wheels on the car as soon as he can scratch up 3 more tires for me, probably later this week. -and yes, I'm going to run Jaguar center caps because like I said, fuck it.
