  • W124 Benz Project

Justpicked up this W124 400E. It's in pretty decent shape and has had the engine rebuilt and alot of service done. Got a pic of a few service records besides the factory service done. I need to clear the hood again or wetsand and buff, as it's pretty oxidized and get a new grill that was damaged from a small hail storm. Anywho I'm pretty happy with it. I only gave $1,700 for it. Gonna start soon on lowering it

Good lookin merc! Did you end up cutting any off of your springs or just running lowering springs?

I was reading about using the Saab 900 shocks in the rear. Do you run factory in the front or is there a better option? I'm thinking since it is a V8 I should just stick with stock in the front with the cut springs and run the saab in the back? Do you guys know a part number or which model the has the smallest spring pads?

I own a saab 9-3 and i can tell you right now those shocks are not that great. your particular benz is a way heavier car and u are better off to use OEM rated Bilstein shocks. as for spring pads go to the dealer and get #1 pads... should drop you significantly with lowering springs... also id run Lowering springs and cut a coil off them for maximum drop and handleing.. since u have a Massive V8 under the hood Though i am an advocate for cutting oem springs, with your v8 i wouldnt recommend it ... it will feel like a boat because u increase the spring travel with every coil cut. best bet is to get some H&R springs, that are rated for your weigh of the motor and cut them with reduced spring pads to keep the performance ....
