the repaires were all completed within a week and she was back on the road

cue a set of matching wheels

then came the straight through exhaust system

after driving it like that for some time i found a set of big bumpers in the right colour

few other things i have done to the golf
engine dumped all the water out on a motorway.temp guage went to 0 and engine overheated badly.
            one swift engine swap later

            stiil a 1.6 driver engine

also have fitted bucket seats and omp harnesses

front end as it looks now

as you can see i have gone back to the 8 balls and small bumpers

i am leaving the centers black for now(cant polish them till the paint has hardened fully)

also cleaned and painted my drums because they are visable through the spokes

                        GTI !!!!

conversion took 6 days in total, including swapping all the brakes and brake lines.rewiring the whole car and swapping the engine.
they are the only pictures i have at the moment but ifi ask liam nicely he might have some more to put up.
WARNING:ANYONE DOING A DIGIFANT CONVERSION,CHECK THE EARTHS ON THE ENGINE AND GEARBOX CAREFULLY OR YOU WILL FRY AN ECU.

an update of our recent antics,
polybushed and welded wishbones and painted the calipers, aswell as a few other bits.
fixed the brake bias so now my back wheels dont lock up straight away.
also made a solid front engine mount, car feels loads nicer to drive.

right a bit of an update,
first off compression tested the engine, came back at 12bar on all the cylinders so i have a nice healthy engine 8)

was very pleased with the result cos i was told it had low compression in one cylinder when i got it

                              now the new exhaust,
welded out of 2" stainless pipe using a gasless mig welder and im very happy of how it turned out,
thanks to jim for the pipe, ian for the awesome welding skills and i suppose liam cos i stole his old backbox without his knowlege

backbox was completely dismantled and the internals were fitted into a standard center box so it would fit in the tunnel without restricting the exhaust flow.

the pipes had to be off set to accomedate the fuel pump and the brake bias valve, bit of welding spatter but very good for gasless mig and it looks alot better in real life.

all mocked up and checked for fitment.

finally the exhaust hangers were welded on and it was heat wrapped at the back for where it would be close to the brake lines and fuel pump.

the fuel pump had a heat sheild put over it aswell to competely seperate it and there is enough room between the brake lines and the exhaust not to cause any problems.was on for a few days as a test and other than a small rattle there were no issues however is now removed cos it was too loud for the mot.and unfortunatly i didnt take any photos of it when fitted but it looked cool. side exits ftw 8)

total cost £11.98 for some welding wire :bball:
