  • 1983 bmw e21 316

    1983 316 in lapis blue.
1.8 8v on a weber carb with a rare five speed gearbox.
it also has upgraded springs fitted.
had a couple of rust holes and poor repairs over the years but that is expected of a car this age..
has a bit of rot in the boot.half of it has already been welded.
its had two plates welded just behind the front wheels.
there has been a couple of plates welded it to the sills which are a bit untidy and a hole in the rear quater
runs a bit rough but i think its just a blocked carb so its should be an easy fix.

at the moment im trying to find a suitable set of alloys and considering retro fitting some more modern cream leather seats because im not a fan of the standard ones.

      bit of an update.
have cleaned the carb and its now ticking over ok but still has a miss so the ignition may be slightly off.
also have fitted a cream leather interior,
its out of a volvo s80,with heated front seats and electricaly adjusted drivers seat.

still on the look out for a set of suitable alloys.
      and a smaller steering wheel.

        right
have changed the diff oil now but is still a bit noisy so may be on its way out.
also put some wheels i had onto it.but they were et38 so i have had it wait for some hubcentric spacers to fit them.
and im still looking out for a set that suits it better.

still driving it around and it hasnt had any real problems other than the brakes being off balance and a warped disc.
so i have orderded a new set of discs and pads which will be fitted once they arrive.

          more of an update.
sorted the brakes.the inner pistons were both seized so i freed them off and put some new discs and pad on it so it now stops in a straight line 8)
also have done a bit more of the bodywork just under the rear lights but im not happy with it so it will be re done, also got tinted lights

also made a rear shelf that has hidden 6x9 speakers underneath it.(rear seat isnt locked back in place in the photo but it does sit flush)

and new wheels that were black but i painted them cream(although its a lot more white than i was expecting  )

            another update
had a bit of an issue involving a rusty exhaust flange

as you can see it did a fair bit of damage.
i decided it would be a good time to swap to a "performance"backbox
also welded up and re painted the bodywork although i am pleased that my previous repair to that corner held together 8)

quite pleased with it although the mounts need altering a fraction to give a little more clearance from the bodywork but its not touching or rattling so its ok for now
also found a carb flange which i am hoping it will fit as i cant find an e21 one.
however the vw item i have does look very similar and its designed for the same carb so i may get lucky.

have now fitted the new bumper corners that came with the car so i havent got a big rust hole showing anymore,if only the front bumper was in such good condition
also got the suspension fitted on the rear and all set up,so it is now height adjustable 8)

yet another set of wheels which i have had for a while but looked silly on it at its previous height.

genuine compomotives that i bought and put on my golf a while ago before i found these.
which i couldnt resist trying one out to see how they looked 8)

it may get put on the minilites when the weather clears up a bit

now the snows and ice is gone i decided to put it on the minilites
also have sorted the bottom of the front wings up as they had been pulled away from the body.
also removed all the rivets that were in the sills from when the previous owner removed the skirts and then undersealed the full sill so it looks a lot tidier now 8)

its getting quite low now

since it was such a nice day today i decided to give it a bit of a polish since i hadnt done it yet.
also painted the rear drums black because for some reasone they were partly yellow :?

                        Nice progress so far.
I feel like the interior is kind of thick for the car, like big. Can't explain it lol.
The last set of wheels is the best choice you've had so far, just gotta lower it now!
                        I dislike Byron.

it is big in the car and i thought about stripping it back out but its sooooo comfy.

also i cant go any lower. its only about an inch off the floor and i cant get up to my drive if its any lower.
although the front arch gap is dissapointing.
