I never got into VWs and ***** working on them due to the absolute nightmare of a mess that is made when doing an oil change on them. Of the few builds I have seen on here, this one stood out. You busted your ass to make this thing work and it shows. Bravo man. Looks great and I hope to see more. Not many people can say they rebuilt a car that old from the ground up and broke it in by driving that bitch across the country twice

Thanks my man. Means a lot to hear all the kind words from people! There's a lot more coming I have all sorts of things I'd like to address. I also wanna acknowledge my buddy Brandon in the passenger seat there made it all possible by rocking his Dealer plates for the trip down. Great friend.
Here's a photo Justin Hallock (AKA Canimuff) snagged down in Helen.
Awesome build. Nothing radical, just right. I love to see people spend so much attention into the little details. That is what makes a build set apart from the rest. Nobody needs wild wheel choices or one-off custom tit-bits to be "different". And yours is a great example.
gonna be pullin the motor out in a few weeks to clean up that hideous overspray and put an upgraded clutch in. Stock one isn't likin the added power and is pretty whooped after the drive to SoWo and back. I've been drivin around locally enjoying it in the meantime.
Also a buddy sent the Canibeat Sowo coverage video over to me, spotted me real quick at 5:30.
Wow, I've followed you on Tumblr for the longest time but I don't think I've ever seen your car, and I must say, I love it! I'm not a huge VW fan but this just works all around for me!
Not to bea this topic into the ground, so I'll keep my suggestion short; per the headliner, could you simply attach a thinnish but stiff piece of foam to the headliner fabric(using a spray on adhesive maybe?) that way you retain the needed flexibility of that panel? Again, I'm sure you're sick of hearing about it, just thought I'd lend you a suggestion!

Awesome! and thank you, I feel like when someone who doesn't like VWs likes it I've achieved something. haha I always wonder how many people notice I use the same name everywhere too.
I appreciate the suggestions, I actually will be pulling that panel soon because I need to adjust the sunroof height. also it seems like something in there is scratching the crap outta the fresh paint on the outside of the sunroof when it's retracted too
What makes the panel such a pain in the ass is that you really can't add any thickness to it such as foam, unless the foam could be shaved to be totally flush. The panel slides in its own track which is only about a 3/16" channel. I've seen people recover them right over the factory piece of vinyl and then they dont slide and get stuck. I think what I'm going to end up doing is pulling the fabric off, and creating a seam across the whole thing horizonally just as the factory piece of vinyl has. There's a slot in the center of the panel that you pull the fabric through and glue down from the back side. I think that way it will be tighter without needing to adhere to the "egg crate" look of the piece of stamped steel.
I raised the car up 1" because the tierods were smashing the "framerails" and I didnt want them to get bent. The solution is gonna be a tierod flip kit and balljoint extenders from the Unix guys up in Canada to drop the control arms back down a bit since they're so negative right now.
I snapped a few shots a couple weeks ago while she was outside the shop.
I've been pretty distracted by summer things but I managed to make a mess last night since a few goodies came in.
She needed an upgraded clutch since the stock one wasn't cuttin it and has had plenty of miles between being in my other car and then in this one. The motor has a bit more pep with the fuel turned up now and cams so it would slip in any gear. Ordered a "Stage 2" clutch produced by Competition Clutch for BFI. I also got an OEM Scirocco rad to get rid of the inline filler. It's given me nothing but problems and I didn't want it puking coolant on my euro alternator again. Note the built-in overflow on the end tank
Now that it's out the bay's gettin a quick cleanup and I can repaint a few things and rewrap the harness, basically dealing with all the bullshit overspray from when it got painted that I was so mad about. I'll have this all done for the 5 hour ride to VAG Fair next weekend.
