  • 1980 Mercedes 240d build

I've been lurking for about a year looking at some spectacular cars. I have always loved old diesel Mercedes because of the way they look and reliability of the motors.

Started out with a 1980 Mercedes 240d with a blown automatic. I have had about 4 of these over the years and have worked on them. Had a 85 300d with a good turbo diesel, transmission and about 95k miles. Decided to swap everything over and eventually stance it. I had two other bodies to choose from but I just loved this color and the car had really low miles. It had been painted once before from the previous owner.

It took me about 3 weeks to do the whole swap because I work full time and the car was at my dad's house about 45 minutes away from where I live. I am really glad I had 3 parts cars to pull from because of the amount of small parts and misc is needed to swap the 5 cylinder turbo diesel into the older cars. Got everything in and running great. Tore apart the old exhaust and just running a straight pipe. Took the air cleaner out and started to make a better air filter system. Just running a cone right now. Adjusted the injection pump to give it a little more pep. Planning on running it on grease very soon. Just have to set up the cleaning system at my house for it. I have an unlimited supply of grease because I am a sous chef and we use about 35 gallons of grease every other day.

This is how it sits now and drives. My dad went and took my hood for his car to get painted because he needed one without dings. I was planning on two toning the car in a couple of months when I get some more time to work on it.

Right now I am trying to locate some rims and tires for it. Luckily one of my buddies just opened his own shop and wants to start doing custom set ups for suspension. He wants to build me a set of coils for the front and back.

The car is going to be an on going project for me.
