looks great! i just bought my first BMW and i've been trying to take in all the different styled builds to get ideas for mine.

never really liked those old 6s til now.
i despise my car, capital letters, and probably you.

Wow thanks. Thats a great compliment. Honestly there are a some better looking sixes out there. Quite a few on here actually. M.burroughs old six, etownc old six, old dirty bastard, Jorge's six, rightous88, and a few others who's name I can't remember all come to mind.

So I changed the engine mounts on the car yesterday. It was a bitch but not as bad I feared. Didnt use the cherry picker and did it all by myself. Unfortunitly I was given the wrong tranny mounts so ill do those monday. Real oem was off on the part number. My baby is back on the road.

You should get some of those Highwaystar tire stencils and letter them, would look awesome on those sidewalls.

Also, apparently you can still special order the rubstrips for euro bumpers from BavAuto, you just need the part numbers from Real OEM.

Either to small or to large. That size dosnt matter stuff is just bs. Lol Yeah they are huge but that's how the ladies like it. Ride so much nicer. extra cushion for the pushing. Funny thing is these sre the same diameter or atleast pretty close to the oem size.

I like what you have done with the car. I almost had a similar situation going down the road. It had been working on the car got in a hurry and forgot to tighten rear right wheel lugs. Took the fam for ice cream... I could feel the vibration and knew right away what I had done... That would have sucked...

I think you car looks great, I've always like those cars don't see may (any) of them around here.

Now part of the reason i have updated here is because my baby has been down for a little bit due to "the man" also known as C.A.R.B. and his CA Smog checks. here is that story:

Just did a bit of work on my 1982 BMW 633csi, but I still failed smog anyway. Work recently done on the car are: new O2, exhaust gaskets, oil, oil filter, air filter, spark plug wires, valve adjustment.

                          .........................CO...........%O.........H C....HC.....HC...........CO%....CO%...CO%......... NO......NO.....NO
                          TEST......RPM.....MEAS....MEAS......MAX..AVE...MEA S......MAX....AVE....MEAS.......MAX....AVE....MEAS
                          15 mph...1524....13.9.......0.8.........126....36.... ...179.......0.92....0.14....0.56........1089....419.... .1705
                          25 mph...1569....14.6.......0.3..........99.....27... ....35.........0.72....0.13....0.35........919.... .350.....1080
(apparently tables do like to work on here so its all jumbled together. hope you can decipher it.

Not sure what the emission standards of 1982 where but that's what the smog place said I failed on. :[ They said I likely need a cat, all the ones I've looked up online say they are not for sale in CA and prices for CA Carb complaint cats is like double. ($98 vs $198) I've done a bit of calling around and have found a few places that will do it for about 225 installed. A friend from out of state has offered to help and is willing to ship me one of the "non CA" cats, but I would still need to have it installed so with shipping it may be a moot point. Also I have had my share of poor luck lately so I'm attempting to get the B.A.R. to help with the repair cost, it will be another week or so before I hear back. I do know of places that will get it to pass but I would rather do it right so I don't have to deal with this again in 2 years I think I'll save money in the long run this way.

Tuesday I called a BAR ref. It was interesting and disappointing. I have heard that a car must only meet the smog requirements of when it was manufactured. I found this particularly interesting since from what I could find smog checks were not a requirement until 1984. Yet my vehicle is a 1982 and I am required to have it checked biannually. When I asked the ref what the max values were for a 1982 vehicle he stated he did not know nor could he check. But it was in their smog system database that connects all the smog test machines. He said that the required values are different based on the car model not just the year. Lastly he also said the the values to meet change overtime. So WTF?! That doesn't seem right or even legal. Was this guy just talking out of his ass or is this really it?

Online some people were mentioning a possible bad EGR Valve but i dont believe my car has an EGR system.? more online poking around points high NOx to lean engines and towards vacuum leaks. I have done a visual and touch test on the hoses and they all seem to be good. Last thing was some people mentioned a possible issue with the temp sensor. One of my concerns is how much higher the NOx reading was at 15mph over 25mph or is that a moot point?

Please help me get pointed in the right direction. Willl replacing the cat be enough or will i still have issues? Thanks in advance for any help. Also feel free to share your CA smog stories here if you like. This alone is why I need a pre75 car in my life.

Pics of engine bay. (still a work in progress)

Why does the AFM connector seem to have some sort of adapter/extension? is this normal? (also chance to show off new wrinkle finish on Valve cover and polish on oil cap. )

This is where my engine idles. The temp climbs very slowly when the car is not moving. I think the Fan clutch is bad so i will be replacing that and replacing the coolant as well.

Link to video of car running (dont now how to post directly here):

Replacing the cat wouldn't hurt, especially since you did the O2 sensor. Check your coolant temp sensors and thermostat too. Oh and cleaning and adjusting the AFM apparently helps. There should be some good DIYs for it on mye28.

A bit delayed due to personal matters but here is my update.

Replaced the Cat. Got it tested and I was able to pass! Hell yes another shark back on the road. That said as some suspected my NOx were still fairly high. 913@15mph and 537@25mph Barely passed at 15mph. I plan on working to get those down to proper levels to A. make sure my car is running the best it can and B. make sure I wont have issues for many more years.

To get it in check I will be replacing the coolant, thermostat, and fan clutch. Also I will try to work something out for the AFM but $450 for a new one is a hard pill to swallow for me at this time. If I were to spend that much would it be possible to go to a Miller MAF and chip instead? I know some of the early cars cannot be converted over. I do not know I that applies to mine.

2 more questions on Real OEM it looks like there are 2 different types of Fan clutches. one where the blades mount in front and the other where they mount in the rear. (no pun intended) here is a picture of mine which do I have? Will this work as a replacement? http://www.ecstuning.com/BMW-E24-633...Fan/ES2534568/
Real OEM shows this one as the part number but I can see any differences. the first one is in stock this one takes 8 days. $40 URO vs $33 MTC

lastly can anyone tell me why the AFM seems to have some sort of adapter/extension at the connector? is this normal or out of place?

Thank in advance for your help.
