  • 1988 Honda Accord Aerodeck - "Marvin"

I picked up my new motor on the 15th May, and this is what has been done to it since then!

    List of modifications
    - Lowered 60mm front, 40mm rear
    - 15" Rota OSR wheels on 185/50/15 Conti Contact 2's
    - Cone air filter and removal of original air intake system
    - Custom back box
    - Smoked tail lights, fog lights (rear) and indicators
    - JBL GTO 508C components in front doors
    - MAC audio 5 1/4" 2-way coaxials in rear
    - 12" JBL P12 sub in a custom enclosure in the trunk
    - JBL GTO 1004E amp powering the components and the sub
    - Green LED footwell illumination
    - Sleepy / winking eye conversion and control switches
    - Aftermarket "JDM" yellow front fog lights
    - Painted front and rear bumpers a soft metallic grey (will paint the sides to match later on)

    List of plans
    - Air suspension
    - Install 4th generation Honda Prelude front seats
    - Tinted windows
    - Overall restoration and de-rust

This is my new car / toy (not sure which role is the primary one!), a 1988 Honda Accord Aerodeck EXi with 4W-ALB, the A20A4 engine (which sounds beautiful), sunroof, electric windows, cruise control and of course, it's a manual too!

I've got many plans for it, but I'm mainly keeping it factory as it's in mint condition! (note: this idea went out the window about 2 or 3 weeks into ownership, when I lowered it, put it on alloys, and started writing out a long list of ideas for it!!)

    Pics from the eBay listing.

Pics from tonight now I've collected it. I'll take some more in the daytime.

I've already started playing with it. Got some nice speakers in the rear, waiting for the speakers to arrive to go in the front, got my stereo in, and I've done a short ram air intake as the original intake is about 4 foot long!

    Before:

    After:

Oh, and it has this sticker on the driver's side wing on the top!!!!

Got some footwell illumination going on now. It's wired into the door open sensor, so that when the passenger door opens, the passenger footwell illuminates, and the same applies to the driver's side.

Got the new component speakers in the front doors. JBL GTO 508C's and they sound immense, and they're not even amped yet!!

Been playing again today, and got some bass in there now! 12" JBL power series sub and a JBL GTO 1004 amp bridged to 3 channels to power the sub and the components up front.

Got a new exhaust on it now too, and it sounds glorious!!!

Got a video up on YouTube now. Filmed by my mate Gav. Ignore the comment at the end, as amusing as it may be

Done a bit of smoking. 25 cigarettes in one day!!! Was smoking so much, Marvin decided he wanted to look cool too so he got his smoke on!

Got the livery added today for Incarsolutions. That's my mate's company in Crayford, Kent, where I do all the work on my car, and I always advertise them on my cars, but thought I'd do it a bit bigger and better than before this time

And saving the best for last.................... Sexilicious new rimmage!!

Nope, they were only made in Japan and Europe. There is less than 100 of these left in the whole UK, and only about 12 left in the top spec, and mine is one of them

Yea, this is a CA5, so it's European version with the A20A engine in it. Luckily, mine was one of the ones that was never produced with a cat in the exhaust, which is always a bonus!! Though no cat to cut out and sell, which is always a disadvantage. LOL

The suspension plans for it are to run air cylinder struts front and rear with accumulators on them for a bit of comfort. That way I can slam it right the way down to the ground when I want to, but also raise it up when I need to. The under tray is scuffed and scratched to hell and back already, and it's not even that low (well, not by the standards of S|W anyways).

I'll be honest, I don't think I've ever seen a set of wheels on a car that everybody loves as much as this combination!! I'm so anxious though about them, I keep parking about a foot away from the kerb!! LOL

Hahaaa, cheers man!! I do love my Hondas (had 2 Preludes when I was a bit younger, both 4th gens) but I've always had a real love for shooting brakes. I was looking at getting a Reliant Scimitar GTE, but this came up and I just couldn't turn it down!

You are definitely right though that it needs more low, but I won't be going with skinnier tyres as I do a LOT of motorway (freeway) driving, and just wouldn't fancy that on anything narrower than 185s.

I've been doing some more work on it today, but it's purely maintenance so not worthy of any pics I'm afraid. Just a coolant change, cut the core out of the stat as it was jammed, and bypassed the thermosensor for the cooling fan as that's packed up too, but a new one should be turning up at the garage tomorrow so that's another job for tomorrow.

Well, you say a needle in a haystack..................

A mate of mine has one exactly the same colour, but his is an automatic whereas mine is the top spec manual!!

Forgive the 17"s on mine, they were cheap and better than standard 14" steelies with wheel trims lol

I've been playing with a few ideas on Photoshop, and here's the outcome.

I'm going to be doing a restoration on the bodywork later in the year to get rid of all the little bits of rust that are around the place, and I'll have a respray done too. As majority of my cars have always been matt black, I decided that I'd go a different way with this one, and was thinking either satin white with a gloss black roof, or just completely satin white. Either way, I can't wait to get it done
