Judging by the surface rust alone this car isn't safe... These things rust pretty bad and id bet an icream sandwich that the rust you can't see is way worse.

          ^^^Agreed^^^

I've worked on 86's quite a bit before, and you would be way better off finding a clean sr5 for really cheap, and swapping the parts over, then selling the sr5 parts; or starting with a clean shell. I would do it this way, because the engine is much easier to work on outside of the car. Plus 100% of the parts are swappable from GTS coupe to SR5 coupe. Everything is straightforward in a conversion compared to trying to fix all of the rust and risking structural integrity. The hardest part would be the rear end and hooking up the correct brake lines and brake proportioning valve, and that's a 3 hour job max for someone new.

P.s. Trim that grass nigga. Your parents dont give you an allowance for non straight edges!
I do that shit for free for mine .

soo, i dont know what to do! im stuck between two options!

1.) Keep it and wait for a cheap corolla to pop up to swap everything

2.) Sell it and buy something else because in two months i am able to drive by myself, and i wish to have something that works and wont let me down! maybe an e36?

            I **** decisions!

dont want to get rid of it because the memories ive had with it and everyone else in my family has had with it.. but reliability?

I wish you lived closer to me, I would take it off your hands. The best thing you could do for max profit would be to part it out and sell the shell.

Honestly, 4ag's with regular maintenance will easily outlast any bmw motor and save you on gas money.

In the last post I forgot the car was a hatch.

kk well i looked on craigslist and found a sr5 coupe for $1100 thats off the island and may be difficult to get.

but i have ran into other problems. As you can see in the pictures my driveway is a lil bit of a hill and thats where i have to work on it because the garage is boxes and bikes to the roof and my mother wont let me get another car unless i sell the corolla because she says we dont have enough room. ill just keep biking and stacking money till i decide whats going to happen

Maybe if you trim the grass and kill the weeds she will let you.

Maybe mom will give you more money if you maintain the yard.

Seriously, keep it. Its been in the fam for so long, why would you consider getting rid of it.

I'm a coupe kinda guy, hah.
