  • nvrlft's E36 328iC "Samantha"

    Howdy,

Thought it was about time I start a build thread.

I've owned a few Bimmers, and after a momentary lapse of judgement when I bought an auto SUV, I wanted to go back to that same feeling of smashing through gears with a screaming straight six in a 50/50 chassis. I wanted to also recapture the fun I used to have in my NA & NB MX5s.

Not seriously looking, a manual E36 328i convertible came up for cheap interstate that was too good to pass up. Then I started thinking about mods. I've always been a fan of OEM wheels on BMWs, and thought the Z3M rims would look awesome and original. Awesome, yes, original... not quite. I've also always loved the hardtop look on convertibles, and it just so happened that a set of Z3M wheels and an E36 convertible hardtop came up for cheap in a matter of weeks. I had them sitting in my garage before the damn car.

    Some inspiration:

Picked up the car in Adelaide, drove it back to Melbourne. Had the fan go on me 3/4 of the way home, smashing the radiator, overflow bottle and hoses. Spent the night in the car and did a radiator swap-out on the side of the road the next day.

I named her Samantha, after my black friend who likes taking her top off. Chucked the hardtop on, installed the Clarion headunit, Hertz front splits, PPI carbon fibre rears, but the massive ported box that houses the 12" Alpine Type S sub doesn't fit in the boot, so trying to find a smaller box for it. Also put in some smoked front indicators and repeaters, upgraded the headlight globes, and changed over the centre console, handbrake and gear shifter gaitor to black alcantara. Did the exhaust Golf Tee Mod and removed the baffle from the airbox. Just waiting for some parts to arrive from the 'States, then she goes in for a road worthy, then come the coilovers and wheels and a few other goodies.

    Getting her home:

    Back home:

    Stezza, alcantara:

For fun one arvo I put my old E34 AC Schnitzers on the front and the Z3Ms on the rear, then shooped it so it's riding a little better than stock:

The idea behind this build is not purely for stance, but a combination of looks and practicality. I live in the country and the roads are shithouse, and I want this car to be able to handle. Will update once I get the RWC and rego and the real fun starts.

    Cheers,
    nvrlft
