  • As of a couple of days ago there was a '75 diesel (i think) for sale on vortex with bags for $2,000. Some rust, but nothing terminal.

Disclaimer: Not my car, so I don't know much more about it.

In your experience is this a dumb idea for someone not very mechanically inclined but willing to learn? I don't have tons of money to dump into something like this.

As always, great work on this. Looks like a ton of fun to drive/own.
I'd say buy the best one you can find, buying a cheap one that might seem a bargain will probably give problems if it was neglected. Ideally find one that has been cared after and properly maintained..to save time and money in the long run

I consider mine to be exactly what your describing, I don't think it's a dumb idea at all. They are very solid cars, watch out for rust and be prepared for every rubber part to be worn out. It's a sweet weekend car if sure you would enjoy the rewarding process of making an old Benz your own.

Pics from the Craigslist ad before I picked it up:

Where are people staying for h2o and we better be an old mercedes meet, there are like a hundred of us now.

              • For a while now i've been thinking the w107 sl560 front lip should just bolt right on to the front of my car and look sweet. I finally found a good deal on one on ebay, this thing better fit and look sweet.

                      • I tried a R107 560 front air dam on my S123 and it was too wide, probably could be hacked up to fit but not worth it imho.

                          • My wife took a pipe to the car yesterday, it wa deserved. Both headlights the fog lights and small deep dents more like gouges. With that being said and not getting into personal details, the car is for sale as is spread the word. Ill put up pictures and make an actual for sale thread soon
