I'm in the pics! Mates Wifey was taking the photos!! I only took tree pics on the phone, was slightly tense!!

The pics were from the beginning of the month. Old engine was out and new in and running in about eight hours. It's not been without it's teething problems though. It had a really rough idle and wouldn't run with the maf plugged in (amoungst lots of other bits..). On the drive home from Kev's it wouldn't rev over 5k like it was hitting a limiter. After some friendly advice I found out it's to do with the abs speed sensor and running a 318is diff with the m52 engine. After some soldering from pin 15 on the ecu to pin 2 on the blue plug on the back of the clocks we had full revs (7200rpm yikes!).

After spraying easy start around the engine bay with it running it was obvious I had a vacuum leak, I replaced the grommet from the icv to the manifold with no joy so took the manifold off.

I'd got another gasket for under the manifold as it was defo drawing air in from this area. Upon further inspection there was a hole that looked like it should have a hose attached but didn't.. Looking at realoem and knowledge from others it seemed that there should be a blanking cap on this, so I made one up and put the manifold back on. Erm.. I had a problem starting the car here but it absolutely wasn't due to me fitting the fuel pipes the wrong way, Nooo siree!!

The ccv was completely blocked too. Have some pics!

I was getting so fed up but all this worked, runs sweet as a nut now I love it with the IS diff still on too, glad I didn't swap it out

Got my AC exhaust on also!

Got all the tar off and gave the tailpipes a quick polish with my trusty £10 drill..

Rob was in charge of fitting the other box at the time and I have never known 8mm nuts to be sooo tight!!!

    All fitted

    Sounds groovy!

Also changed the bonnet struts as I finally had enough of the thing randomly shutting on my head.

I wanted a induction kit with heatshield to replace the airbox which is cracked and flapping about as there's no brackets for it to bolt onto on the 318is, the filter is also well passed its best.

Dave F and K&N kits with the heatshield are stupid money and I can't justify spending that much wedge. Any cheap kits I've seen are cheap for a reason! So I thought I'd make my own..

Filter for £15, 80mm silicone elbow for £11 and some 80mm aluminium pipe for £8 and a couple of quid for two jubilee clips. I got an old H&S sign from work and some door seal from an old forklift..

Used a bit of cardboard to get the correct shape,

    roughly cut and bent,

painted up with rubbers seals on,

    And fitted to the car..

I'm happy with it! Superb knicker wetting induction BWWARRP too!! Quicker but probably just because the old filter was so fooked..

Still got these to put on at some point..

My car doesn't have ews so I couldn't swap the module/chip in key like on a later car. The guys I bought the remapped ecu off also deleted the ews, plug and play. Still don't dare rev it to 7200rpm tho!!

Not bad as the 'box linkage bushes need renewing and it takes ages to change gear (need a Z3 lever to lower the throw as well)

Had to shut off as I ran out of roa.........errrm......runway
