Those swirls are from sanding, you probably have to go back to the 600 and sand them out. If you have polishing rouge you can use that after the 600 grit....

A buddy of mine got some strut tubes for me from an 83 turbo wagon parts car and he's going to cut them down 2" for me

What sand papers did you use and how fine a polish did you use mang? Generally a microfiber pad will work well with that tho.

I used your typical dry/wet sand papers 320, 600, 1000, 1500, and 2000 and my buddy recommended the blue Heavy Metal Polish, I feel like using the powercone made the swirls

I feel like the swirls are from after the sanding. I made sure to sand in one direction the whole time and nothing before the polish was done with a swirl pattern.

well after talking with my buddy we figured out that I was just being a little too vigorous with the PowerCone, so I re polished them by hand with much less pressure and well here's a little wheel porn for you

Small update, mostly acquiring more stuff, no assembly progress yet.

My buddy put in some bad ass work on the strut tubes for me, took a 2" section out of them.





and I got the Chevy S10 shocks for the rear all cleaned up


and got another wheel polished, these things take FOREVER

great start, I'm actually in the process of refinishing some CCWs for my 242. I did pretty much the same process you did and someone said I should go even higher like 3-4000 grit.

Also just finished installing coils from RSI, looking forward to how this turns out!

yea I think it would be good to use the jewelers polish kit if I were to do it again. The DIY threads suggest up to 2000 grit, then the polishing rouges with the brown and white bars, and THEN the metal polish. but I just went to the metal polish right after the sandpaper, and honestly you can still see the sanding marks if you look really closely. I might redo it later but for right now I just want to get the damn things done haha

To get really low you need to go with shorter struts, which requires cutting the strut tubes. RSI uses short Billy HD struts for their coilover kits which I believe were originally for a Saab. They also cut their strut tubes 2" to make the short Billys work.

I'm not going with their coilover kit though, I'm piecing mine together, but I've had lots of talks with them about their kit and I'm going to be getting the short Billy HD struts from them because they include the modified gland nut that works perfectly with the volvo strut tubes.

Kaplhenke also shortens the strut tubes with their coilover kits if you want to get really low, but the struts they use with the shortened housings are Koni Race struts which are $80 more than the Billys and are a bit overkill for my needs.

ah ok I got confused because of the previous poster. Im going with the RSi because I dont have access to the tool to do it myself. 4" lower in the front is plenty for my needs
