  • MK5 VW Golf aka "Collette"

After owning my car for a couple of years now and having browsed numerous forums, this community seems the most appropriate one in which to finally make a build thread. Love all of your cars, some amazing builds in here.
I'm 25, live in MN, still in school (MD), so time is the limiting factor here on this one...it's my first go at creating my own auto. So here is a little timeline and future plans for my dd:

    Bought new, 09 Rabbit 6at o2g, 2.5L 5cyl:

Did a few things right away. Coils, darkened tails, colormatched sidemarkers (bulbs out), matte black mirror caps, tinted LED mirror bulbs, stubby antenna obviously:

Tried some wheel ideas. Off the SLK:

Had these on for a few days:

At the time was wanting something similar to this PS but less bright.

    But I found something better. 18x8.5/9.5, 225/35 245/35 :

    Then I took some pics:

Got the impact strips and bumper mouldings painted to match body. Got bored of headlights and didn't like any of the aftermarket options available for the MKV, so decided to retrofit 4 new projectors. This was my first headlight retro. Thanks to hidplanet and theretrofitsource, lots of trial and error, I ended up with this:

Got some 9.5 fronts and test them out. Decided against it, because of the amount of stretch and fender modding that it would require. I didn't really feel like mutilating my fenders. Plus I wanted to keep some decently meaty tires on there for future power upgrades...

    Engine shot:

    Got some projector fogs:

Went for a drive with some buddies. Then the car grew a stache, and we went for some more driving:

    Moustache ride!!!!:

It was about to snow again, so this time I got new wheels/tires:

Also got a JL sub and detector (hardwired), oh and hatch pop kit (which happened near the beginning):

    Winter took its toll:

    A dremel will fix that.

Got sick of the broke-ass lip after about 3 weeks so put a new one on along with 3000K fogs:

    And this was today:

So here are the plans for it in the coming days/weeks/months:

-GTI brakes painted black with G2 kit, along with Adams rotors and Stoptech pads
    - Install turbo and get tuned (UM or C2). C2 motorsports stage 3 kit, PT 5457, 550cc injectors, inline walbro, 8.5:1 low CR kit, 3" tbe with high-flow cat + resonator + 1 muffler, possibly an intake manifold.

    The pup:

Well...hope you enjoyed this little journey. I will update this thread as things happen, but I expect to have a ~350-400hp Rabbit later this year

      Thanks for the kind words!
The 6 slots are winters, the AMGs are still my summer setup which will go back on once it warms up.
The stache will probably go soon, it was on last fall just for fun. I just need to figure out the most aesthetic method of deleting the plate holes.
I've thought about deleting the rear wiper, trust me, but I actually use it especially in winter...

Yea i noticed you use the whipers in the pictures. I used to use my back whipers on my A3 to, so I was reluctant to tear it of. Once I did, I found out i could do without it easily

The nicest way to get rid of the holes is probably to weld them shut with plastic. That's what's most commonly used where I come from. The bumper will need to be resprayed though (at least a part of it), so it's not the cheapest way.. But by far the nicest and strongest way.

Adams rotors and stoptech pads, check! Now all I need are SS lines.

Planning on doing some Gtech tests to compare stopping distances between stock and upgraded brakes. This will require putting the summer wheels/tires back on.

Loving your car and the retrofits. Thank god we have had a mild winter here so far, otherwise you might have lost more then just a lip.

Awesome build thread Niko. It's really awesome to see the progression and the before and after pictures. Can't wait for this summer! 400hp 5cyl turbo rabbit. One of a kind. Should be a lot of fun man!

So I created this thread last year and forgot about it. Some major things have happened, so I thought I'd update

I got the GTI calipers/carriers on along with Stoptech pads, Adams rotors, Neuspeed SS lines, and some Motul 600 brake fluid. I didn't take any pictures of this stuff mounted, but it's pretty easy to imagine

At some point during the summer, I plastidipped the AMGs gold:

Ended up not liking the look, so I went back to the OEM color. Nothing new on the car at this point, but these pics sure make me miss summer.

In November, I finally started the turbo build.

                      C2 log manifold
                      PT 5457
                      550cc injectors
                      inline walbro fuel pump
                      8.5:1 low CR head spacer
                      C2 SMIC intercooler
                      3" downpipe, full 3" exhaust
                      39mm wastegate
                      Forge 007
                      Forge mbc
                      United Motorsport custom tune

Had to pull the engine apart from the transmission (so just pulled it) in order to weld the oil return line to the upper sump:

Car was finished in the beginning of December. Ran it at 12psi to break everything in and was then planning on turning the boost up. Didn't dyno it, but it felt like it was making somewhere around ~300-320whp. I ran against my buddy's 335i with an intake and Vishnu tune from 20-120 and put a few bus lengths on him. The car ran like a champ (thanks to the United Motorsport tune), had awesome driveability, and it ripped. The stock 6 speed auto tranny also held up quite nicely.

I'll post up some quick video once I get it edited.

BTW, the reason I'm using the past tense is that all of this happened about a month ago. Since then, some more major events occurred, and I will update this thread shortly with the progress
