  • e39 540i M-Sport

Hi guys, I have been a member of the forum for a few months now. I have owned an e34 and an e36, and picked up a super clean 2003 BMW 540i M-Sport a few days ago. Parts are steadily coming in now, so I figured I would start my build thread. Let me know what you guys think.

Here she is the day after I got her. I took the chrome kidneys off right away and replaced them with some black ones from bavauto.

A few days later the carbon fiber M5 trunk lip spoiler and carbon roof spoiler came in

Then I turned my attention to the engine bay, the valve covers looked terrible. The paint was chipping bad. So I took them off and re painted them. They did not turn out as good as I hoped, but they look better LOL

A few days later I decided I wasnted to hear that V8 a little more so I ordered a Magnaflow 14834. Got it installed and it sounds awesome, I left the Y resonator in I didnt want it to be too loud.

Driving home from work one day I look at my interior and decide I should do something to it. The wood trim looks ok but I wanted to change it up a little. Also some of the lcd strips on the head unit went out so I decided to replace it. I ordered some 3M Dinoc carbon wrap to wrap my wood trim in (completely reversible), and also ordered a Pioneer SPH-DA01 AppRadio.

I also ordered some BC Racing coilovers from Tristan at Circuit Motorsports. And also ordered a carbon fiber M5 front lip spoiler. Both items should be delivered tomorrow. I just want to give a shout out to Tristan,he was awesome. Answered all my questions and helped out the best he could. These guys have excellent customer service.

Im having the hardest time deciding on what type of wheel to go with. For now I threw some 20mm spacers all around to push the M Parallels out a little.

I paid $1,034 for the coils with the rear adjuster extenders.

I wish I could have gotten it to work, my car is equipped with the DSp Business sound system. Car toys told me it was imposible to get it to work. Well not impossible but I would have to gut the entire sound system and replace it with after market.

Thanks bro, I just installed the coils this weekend. Ill post updated pics in a minute.

Here is how she sits now with the coils, 20 mm spacers, and carbon fiber M5 front lip. BC coils ride amazing by the way. I will be lowering the front another half inch tonight.

I am trying to get my hands on some E38 M parallels. The fronts are the same with but have lower offset then the e39's and the rears are a half inch wider.

I would leave it in this stage and buy a cheapy project car to work on. I love the way it looks now dont change the wheels
