    They were machined slightly !

    some updates.
Got a very good head off a friend, did a basic rebuild on it. lapped the valves and new seals etc.

and all assembled ready to go in!

found 2 stripped threads on the block. going to helicoil them and see if the other ok ones will hold. if not I'm gonna helicoil them all.

Heli coils in most situations are a life saver but I'm not a fan of using them on a block, we did a head gasket on a 328i vert, the guy had driven it until it stopped ( typical punter) so it was properly cooked, the threads pulled out of that one, we got it heli coiled by our engineer because the customer didn't want to by an engine, and it didn't work, blew another gasket a month or so after.

The Roti BLQ's always reminded me of these. But you went OG. Did'nt thing anything besides a Mk2 VW or e30 could've pulled them off. Nice job.
thanks mon. you got pics of the mk2 and the e30?? I've seen a mk2 golf with them but narrower verions with no lip.

the hottest the coolant ever got was about 120oC the oil never got too hot. what do you think?
these blocks are notorious for stripping the threads too. but it can be done!

random mis fire and hotter runnin started the other day. thought I'd check it out with a compression test cos it has been more than a year I did one. and compression was down by alot on #4 #5
i replaced a spark plug that looked like this #4
mis fire went but came back after a few minutes. covered in oil again I assume. so there's serious oil issue on #4. I drove it anyway to my girls and it over heated and drunk 2 l of water ! on the way home it did the same but got too hot every 15 minutes! and 2l of water gone in 15mins. soooooo headgasket or something is cracked.

    #4 !

the block is very good condition though with no visible cracks. cross hatching looks like new still

so I'm trying to get a used head to put on... lame times
