So it's time for me to pop my Stanceginity... Or something.
The name is Daniel, 17 years old, but hitting 18 in less than two months, living just south of Oslo. At the time of turning 16 in 2010, I started looking for my first car. Was looking at a lot of cars. Anything from Volvo 142's to mk1 RX7's. Never really looked at MX5's as much. Although, while browsing the listings I came over a few of them that caught my eye. Fell in love with that dorky face of theirs. The thought of a 50/50 weight balance also tickled my fancy.
Looked at a few of them, mostly overpiced hunks of scrap (some even multiple cars welded together!) until I found this. The rest is history...
It's a 1995 Mazda MX5 (euro edition), imported from Switcerland in the early Naughties. Rolled 75k kilometers when I got it, with many plans to have a cool daily to run in. And eventually maybe build a track car out of it. But, those plans are iced. Plans of importing an Aristo for track-shenanigans.

Anyhoo, I bought the car mid-May '10 as my first car. The plans were already made. Low, wider so I could drive to school in style.

Bog standard, except a new headunit and a windblocker. Which was aboutthe extent of the prior modifications of it. First thing I did was to acquire a hardtop for it. £500 including a full set of Daisy's with some crap studded tyres. Bargain!

The beauty of it, was that it's low-milage, driven by an old lady so never thrashed. Bushings felt like new! ... almost. Clean as hell under, but a lot of small dents and scratches on the paint. I don't mind, as my plans involve ruining it anyways!
Some time went, without modding it a lot because of my baking balance took a hit in the face, with a spade after buying this thing.

Obligatory sports airfilter for the awesome sounds... Or whatever.

Found some rust.

Did some digging.

Cleaned it up with a grinder and painted it.

Ta-daaa

Sacrilege!

As far as I know, these are the first set in Norway... Which is cool.

Cheap and efficient... Pantyhoses! Since the cops here are some a*al buggers, they can easily be ripped off if they start making a fuss about it.
Did this...

Voila! 195.55.15's on the Rota's... Not a lot of stretch, barely any. But just enough. Might have to get new ones soon to minimize rubbing issues.

A wee bit.

I got so much shit for this...

Some stiffening up was needed.

Had a double 12" sub laying around... Hacked it up and made it fit in the boot. Practicality is the motto of the day!

It just about fits... After some persuation of the MDF plates. I now have a lot of small outward dents in my bootlid.

Bought some used Racelands. Just to stop the shitstorm of hatred of my "epic height failure" from the likes of Brooksie and other "friends"...
Onwards!

Got the fronts fitted... I kind of like it with a little rake.

All four on the ground... No archrolling done yet, so it rubs like a mofo at this height... to be continued.

Another shot for good measure. It just about clears my drive. The stones have sunken so there's a 1inch lip where the stone meets the pavement...

See what I mean? Gonna tear up the stones and fill it up with sand again, as soon as it melts and dries up again. Stance is a lifestyle, one has to suffer.

Got the rear arches rolled, so the "lip" is bent inwards. Fronts yet to be done.
Couple shots of it sitting on the paddock of the new Rudskogen, while I was out shooting at some event with Porsche's, Lamborghini's and the likes...

It's getting there... Oh, I have to add... About the racelands, although cheap as chips. And soft as hell when lowered a lot, they are actually decent! Can't complain, just have to see how long they last on our shitty roads...

Got a set of these. Much better than the standard seats, feeling much more confident driving it now!

Snug fit.

The last shot of the car, "stanced", before the white stuff started hitting the ground.

Kicked out my dad's Merc and put the Mazdarati in to sort out the front arches. One of which who was now horribly bent front rubbing the tyre.

Before

After about 30 minutes of carefully hammering the metal back into shape.

While in the garage, I wound the fronts all the way down to see how it went. Tucking a little tyre. Needs more stretch.

The clearance. A whole 5 minutes after setting it down on the ramps, so the springs haven't set. It shall be interesting to see how much this thing will rub!
And that's basically it for now. It's now sitting outside with no fenders or front bumper with a flat battery. Going in the garage this coming week to remove the helper springs on the rear, as the adjustment perches hits the driveshafts, which means no more lowz. That needs to be sorted the f*ck out!
In addition, I have a KG Works ducktail waiting for a lick of paint, and hopefully I'll get a couple big packages from the US soon... Bring on the summer!
To be continued...
