  • just an ole beetle

hey everrone, I'm paul. I've been lurking this site for awhile but haven't posted anything till now.
But here is my 61 beetle ive had for 6 years now. Its been the first car I have "built" I guess. I've swapped the motor like 6 times since ive owned it, I keep dropping valves and replacing the heads with other used heads that drop more valves but hopefully it all works out this time around. I got the heads on my 1200 rebuilt at a machine shop and they have been bueno so far. Im going to rebuild my 1600 dual port this spring and throw some NEW heads on it. Other than that I completely re did the car a few years ago, new brakes, lowered (narrowed beam 5inches up front with dropped spindles and 2 notches?? out back) did all the metal work, it was really rusty. everything basically except for cosmetics.
I got a new headliner and carpet and radio that I am going to install soon, will keep you posted. any how here are some pics from the past week...

    1200 almost complete

1600 in pieces, waiting for rebuild on 56 merc work bench

just put in this cigarette lighter, drilling that hole was painful but worth it

    1200 in!

Interior looks great already! White and baby blue works perfectly. So are you gonna respray it at some point?

That patina is SICK! I would totally make everything else perfect and leave the paint as is. It adds so much character that you just can't replicate.

I like it. I like how the inside looks mint and the outside looks aged. I would drive it everywhere just like it is!

Thanks for the positive feedback! Its mostly all OG paint, I'm gonna rock it like this for now. Gets the attention.
Well so far this motor has been working well. I had a problem with it this week, it was stumbling upon acceleration. I couldn't get my head wrapped around it after trying to change distributor, clean the carb.... ended up being rotten gas!! So I ended up driving it to work last night, it was pretty freakin cold.
                      here are some pics ...

Been daily driving this bad boy everyday for the past month and a half, 50km a day.
It is slow but good on fuel!
