  • Dobre's Mk2 jetta diesel

so i needed another car to daily because the e21 was starting to have some issues. I saw a mk2 jetta at iaai.com"where i usually buy my cars" thought it was cool but not something i would really get. then my buddy Clay texted me telling me to get it for him because my parents have a license there. he told me how cool the diesel was, and the more i thought about it i liked it.
so i figured why not try and bid on it. Old VWs at the auction usually go pretty cheap. We bid on it and won. spent a little more than i wanted to but i knew it was a good buy.

heres some pics from the auction completely stock.

then we got it delivered to the house.
checked it out and it would not start, which sucked cause the website said it ran and drove.
the body seemed straight except for a few dents and very dull paint.
the car came with a mk2 bentley book and a ton of shifter linkage parts. idk why but it was all new in a bag in the trunk
at first we thought the starting issue was a fuel cutoff solenoid.
we called around and i was going to pick one up the next day, then i decided to check if there was air in the system.
and i was hoping that was it.
so i bought a mityvac pump and started bleeding the fuel lines.
saw tons of bubbles come out then it started right up and sounded great!

After we got it running we found out it wouldnt go into first gear. then after fiddling with it we got it to go into first but then it wouldnt go into reverse. the bag of trans linkage stuff had an alignment tool so we followed the instructions and aligned the linkage correctly. then bamm! perfect, smooth shifting.

then we drove it around the block and realised the brakes barely worked.
i figured it was a master cylinder. so we picked up a new one. installed and bleed it, and it felt great. untill three days later.
it went back to being shitty.
so i listened to what ben"motocaddy" told me. that the proportioning valve usually go out on these cars and probably needed to be replacedl.
so i found one cheap online and repaced it. a week later and the brakes are amazing!

so those were the main issues besides a small oil leak ill have to deal with until i find out where its coming from.

i always told myself after the S4 i had that i would get bags on my next car, so i talked to drew dorbritz for a qoute.
then Leo"vdubsungay" messaged me about his coils he had on his mk3.
he sold them to me for a damn good price i couldnt pass up.
as soon as i got them i wanted to put them on the car, but had to hang out with my lady friend.
so when i got home at 3am i installed them.
this is how the car looked the next morning.

still all stock with 14s and huge tires.
i didnt plan on doing much to the motor except make it more reliable.
i never really drive fast. even in a fast car lol
so i planned to "like all my past cars" Slam it as low and reasonably possibly on some nice wheels. And then maybe paint it. not trying to go crazy with it just a nice daily that I would like.

I decided i wanted to go with 14s cause i thought 15s were to big and woouldnt let me go low enough.
did some searching on CL and found some super cheap rare enkei splits.

picked them up asap because they were off a camaro and i already had adapters to make them work on my car.
they were 14x7 and didnt care much of the offset untill i saw that they were -12 lol

bought some tires from my buddy max for the 14's

got home and tried on one enkei with a 35mm adapter and got this..

    look goodfrom the side then..

had to try them on the e21

i didnt want to deal with that much poke so i decided id just sell them.

i wanted to do 14s but i had another set of 2 piece gotti J55's that were 15x7 et35 that would work perfect with my adapters.
so i tried them on and loved them!

i said fuck it ill go with these once i buy tires.
leo was going to polish them but i have another idea i think im going to do :thumb

Carol was nice enough to let me have her old 16v lip from her mk2
to me it completed the front thank you carol!!

max let me roll on his castelletes untill i get tires for the gottis.
    thanks bro!

heres a shitty i phone shot.

this photo just reminded me of my old jetta so heres a special j.evins pic of it ;D haha

with the smaller tires it slammed it and i loved it!!!
