  • Project Ti

I'm very well aware that I have an issue with modifying cars, my wife made me very well aware of my habit, this being the 4th car in our current projects (I have a 5th car as winter car), its priority is rather low compare to others.

It all began as my wife needed a new winter car, since the E30 is summer only, her requirement was simple, fun and reliable, we literally looked at tons of cars to a point I got mad at her for being too picky, the one day the light bulb went off and the idea of an E36/5 Ti came to light, it's an E36 front, with E30 at the back, so it should drive like an E30 but with some added comfort.

As soon I began the search, I did not realize how few of them still exists, with them being extremely expensive when new, its no wonder, after a long search I've found one with horrible photos and decided to take a look, figure can't lose anything other than my time, turns out to be an interesting gem, its a 96 with sport package, as we never got clubsport in Canada, it has LSD, relatively good maintenance, good stereo system and most important of them all, car had no rust, which is rare for a Canadian BMW that gets driven in Winter.

The goal of the car is all around car, it has to endure winter months and track abuse, as my wife refused to track the E30, but if something happens with this car, I'll just buy a new one.

    Plans:
    - BC Racing coils (bought)
    - 328i front brakes (bought)
    - M3 front bumper, it was missing when I bought the car
    - M52 swap, whenever I have the time
    - 17" or something for street, as the 16"s are going to be track wheels.

When the car just came home, its a very quirky car and I've grown to like it, A LOT!

    Got the BC's.

Got the brakes and coils on at StanceFactory, had to get bearings too at the same time, so now no more solid discs up front, got a little bit of a rake going here.

Here are some very late updates, the M52 swap is finished but took lot longer than expected, the car drives great and is fairly fast, even know it can score some serious lap time we are still using this for grocery runs.

          So
          - New m-tech bumper
          - M52 swap
          - OEM M3 mid and rear section
          - kept the 3.45 LSD
          - Euro clear tails
          - Racing Dynamics 17x8

And the past weekend, a friend drove the car in the BMW Club's track event at Mosport along with Bimmercruise, with the racing dynamic quickly spray painted in black with Toyo RA1's.

          Video of the track action.

This is my fourth of five runs throughout the day. Car had a few handling deficiencies that I had to drive around, but managed to make it work. I was disappointed…

Good looking 318. I see them all the time down here and they are beat to to hell with massive fart cannons on them.

Looking clean, I need to source that M-Tech rear bumper for my Ti!!! Did you do the M50 intake mani swap on your M52? I've heard that's a decent (and cheap) gain in power/loss of restriction.
