  • I don't know if this will help since my car is a Honda and I don't know much about bimmers, but I recently had the same starting problem you have. Turns out it was the ignition coil inside the distributor.

Just did a quick google search and found this page. This is from the last post

Success!! Thanks to all for your input. I swapped the reference sensor and that did the trick. Installed new one from BMA along with new cap and rotor and new plugs and this 88 535is runs great. Idle steady at 800 rpm. Thanks again to all.

Thanks for the help. It ended up being a difference in the fusebox designs between 1984 and my harness which is a 1987 or something. I had to jumper the main relay kinda to get power to the ICV and injectors, and I needed to just jump a wire to the coil as well. And then I had to put the fuel lines on not backward. this thread when I read all 10 pages of it.

                            • Finished bleeding the clutch and adding coolant today. Took it for quick around the block, then a first drive.

                              Ossie(Bronzit) had the honors.

                              Straight headers.

It also overheated, all over the windshield and onto cars behind it. Sketch. We didn't really bleed it well enough I guess.

                              Parked once again at TFG.
