I picked up a set of Schnitzers. Decent shape, but one was cracked and leaking. So got to work fixing that up.
Notched out the crack using a hacksaw.

Done on the outside edge.

Since the inside edge won't allow a hacksaw, we used a drill to notch the crack out, and to keep it from spreading any further.

Used a Plasma arc gun and 4043 filler rod, since the casting on this wheel was so thick. Provided excellent penetration and is very strong.



After welding front and back, we used a combination of an angle grinder and a few files to take the excess material back off.


This was the right rear rim, so I thought I post a photo of it post-repair. It balanced out perfectly with only 1.5oz of weights. Many NEW wheels out there take more weight than that.

I'm very satisfied with the wheels, and think they look GREAT on the e28. Just thought I'd share what I've been up to the last few days.
