  • No seriously, honk if parts fall off

Well now that shes been introduced and home. Its time for the build.

After much investigating, even after a production stamp of 72, i think im gonna just determine her a 73. Because im finding mixed dates on her and I just cant come to terms with why a PO wouldve swapped to 73 tails/fenders. So im claiming her as 73 on the title.

    OG color:

Trip from northern MD after paint:

    First cleaning:

I saved the dash. It was warped and i rewired and saved the a lot of the parts that were warped as well (I feel she spent a lot of time in the sun at one point in her life because theres serious sun stain on the seats from what looks like parts that rested there for years).

The dash back in and cleaned:

New carpet, rubber seals, and headliner are on the way. Also needs a new rear deck but she runs fantastic. She wont see low until the interior is done and im comfortable sitting in her. Shes old, so be nice to her. So happy to be back to posting and building instead of watching and drooling. Thanks all.

its my first air-cooled. Of many. After being in the water game for 3 years, im pretty nervous. First historic, carbed, non fuel injected car ha. Im obsessed with early bugs. But i want to start with a later model. Once i get acquainted and comfy, ill be ready for an earlier model.

keep it running. no really ha. Would love a luggage rack up top, but i think first i wanna get some smaller tires in the front and try and push her a bit lower. Im happy with the narrowing but i think i can still squeeze another inch.

havent been on in a while, some updates. She made it to h20 in one piece this year. Several more parts and smart car tires later:

thanks all, owning something this old is one of the best gambles ive ever taken. I love this car to death and cant wait to do more work over the winter.

My dad had a 73. payed $300 for it, drove it for 10+ years. Like a boss.
