Finally got most of the engine finished.

Lots of new internals, power washed the block, stripped most of the tins and refinished them, as well as intake and manifolds. refinished gen stand, gen, fuel pump, new seals on most everything, and did a test fit of all the parts back on. Ordered a new shroud w/o ducts, deleted the heating and thermostat with jtubes, just gone a run an open shroud.

annnnnnnd the final product, well once i bolt it all down, still waiting on some parts, but im very happy with the colors and the turn out...

bay clean up and wire tuck is next weekend

    well the engines out...

started to strip her down. heads will come off this week as well as tearing down the rest of her.

    clutch: destroyed ha

and the reason the engine came out...this is the shroud for you non air-cooled folk

    shroud open:

    shroud closed:

at the end of that metal rod im pulling to open and close the shroud is whats called in air-cooled terms the thermostat. i know strange for an air car but, it has a bellow that opens and closes as the engine warms and cools. it opens and closes these ports on the shroud to allow the "air-cooling." there was no thermostat. gone. these ports were closed...always. so, the car was never cooling. thats why i replaced some tins and got a standoff boot because something was causing the car to really really overheat. that would be the issue so im very happy to have found my problemo and im gonna start refinishing and restoring for the next month before it goes back in.

Did you do your beam yourself or did you have someone do it. If yoiu did it yourself where did you get the info on how to do it.
the knockdowns arent bad at all. The wood slats will def have to be re stained after about a year but i keep mine covered so theyre not too bad. the metal quality is...7/10 but, i recently resprayed it and it looks as good as new. very happy with it.

I had a ton of help on my beam. I did a lot of research but had some good friends cut and weld. Ive since pulled the bjs, TAs, spindles and replaced the leaves as well as trim the bonnet wall to correct some vibrations so if you have questions feel free to ask.

im sure youve seen this thread, but tons of links in here:
