Well considering you can get a rally skid plate for these cars that literally bolt on and are 1/4" thick for around $150-$200 bucks, I think I'll do that if I ever bust a pan. not destroy my sway bar, which assists you in STEERING not suspension.

Holy Moly... OP please be careful, if those "welds" blow out on the highway some crazy stuff may go down.

A+ for going out and trying something yourself though, even if it is very dangerous, not practical, and can be had correctly for cheap.

The front end of the skid is going to catch something and your car is going to be in for a world of hurt.
