    WARNING: EXTREMELY LONG READ

started off a a bog standard mk4 6n with every panel rotting away
alot of work, few late nights and a fair chunk of my bank account later i got the result i was after but after doing 15 miles with it i decided i wanted to change a few bits but not going to show the new bits till Ultimate Dubs 2011

i'll let the pics do the talking

car completely stripped and mk4 golf R32 skirt being moulded into the correct shape

R32 skirt smoothed in and primed

    wheels painted

rear bumper being made from the top half of a 6n and the bottom half of a 6n2 bumper

    bumper primed

    pillars trimmed in black velvet

interior retrimmed, full 6n2 gti interior

    from this

    to this

    and how it looks today

    oh and safety first

then 2011 came and decided a little facelift was needed for the car attending ultimate dubs

    first off the tailgate

i got the chance of a mk5 tailgate cheap……how could i let this pass by
so out with the grinder and welder

I wanted to keep the handle in roughly the same position the original VW badge was on the tailgate and the plate was placed inside the tailgate then welded in so the actual bulging piece of the handle is smaller than a mk5 so it resembles a badge more (subtle)

next up, the bonnet, i wanted to add my little touch to the bonnet but i wanted to keep my badged honeycomb grill so instead of smoothing out the bonnet notch i extended the area above the headlight by half and inch, its not a huge change but it add a different look to the front
    the weld in section

next up, gti spoiler, you can only buy 2 of these, one with a brake light fitted to it and the other with a large cut out section so the brake light on the tailgate can show through, i wanted….neither so take out the brake light and fill in the holes and space

    an all painted

    handle backing colour coded

    and done

got a magazine feature in july

needed to get rid of that horrible sunroof on the car so ordered up a new roof skin from vw and 3 weeks later it arrived

    fitting the roof
    take off the old one

new roof now fitted and re aligned

custom made adaptors for the new wheels to convert my current 4x100 to 5x112

trial fit of the new wheels

managed to get hold of 2 polo 6n doors with the audi A3 door handle conversion

my pics from the photoshoot in june

    few of my favourites

oh and collected one wheel from mike the polisher at the weekend............LOVE IT

    now onto the air ride

AirLift 4-way Fully digital autopilot system
    2 480c compressors
    5 gallon air tank
    4 digital valves
    airlift ECU
    water trap

each individual corner can be controlled separately, along with 3 pre set setting, all down, ride height and all up
and its also programmed to fully drop the full car when you take the keys out and when you turn the ignition on it will raise itself to a pre set height

decided not to do a full on show sort of install because i still want use of my boot so with the floor raised and false floor fitted i still have use of almost the full boot

the setup all attached to a base to be bolted into the spare wheel well

    control unit

after ordering this I found out airlift don't make bags for a polo, in fact alot of companies didn't make bags for a 6n polo. so on the phone to bagyard in austria who made a custom set of supremes for a 6n from blisten struts and finished in Lexus pearl red

and my brushed aluminium engraved airlift plaque

alot of people might just see it as an old polo, alot of people might not like it but I love working on it and knowing the fact i saved it from being crushed and its currently in this condition makes me very happy with it

thanks for reading and hope you enjoyed

thanks guys, got someone coming this weekend to measure up my engine bay for a few stainless stell parts and all the glass being removed next week

got the tyres on the 2 rear wheels and dropped the car and damaged one rear arch but thats not too bad considering i'm going to flare it slightly but the wheels sit almost perfect and alot better than my current wheels

                            little update

bought a mk6 golf tailgate weld in section to get the handle from it just to update mine a little

got the arches finished to clear the new wheels

                            8j with 18mm adaptors and 165/50/15 bridgestones

misses the arch buy just over 2mm, or in scottish terms " a baw hair "

so decided the extend the rear quarter panel sections were the lights sit, with these being the newer 6n2 lights they overhang the quarter panel so you see a shadow under the light, this reeeeaaaalllly annoyed me for ages decided to cut them and weld in a new section, it was extended before but just didnt sit completely flush so I had to fix it

new section is about 3/4 inch bigger than the original panel but sits a million times better now

new section with a light skim to get the shape

light fitted, fits edge to edge perfect

just needs another skim and tide up the inner edge and should be ready to prime

bought a set of 6n2 stubbie mirrors

stripped them and sent out the base plates to get carbon skinned so they will be back next week

the paint on the covers was a bit worse for wear

so stripped them back to plastic, re smoothed them and primed them
