  • Fantastic! I just picked up a euro 82 732i (very euro, all instrumentation is in German) for a daily and future project once I finish up my Compact, this thread makes me feel like my purchase was the best I could have made!

In for updates, love the ride man!

        • Hey man, LOVE the E23 and all the helpful photos you have posted, especially the airbagging ones. Makes me feel confident i could bag mine but i was wondering how your engine bay looked after you tucked all the wires, cos im sorta starting to tuck mine.

          • Sorry for the lack of updates guys. I recently moved to a new place and it took a long time to get things back in line. I have a garage for the car again and I just finished the wire tuck with the exeption of a few things.
I'm having an issue finding a longer coil wire so I can hide the coil. No one seems to carry longer ones with the connector ends that bmw uses. I also need to figure out where to move the brake bomb and steering fluid reservoir off the strut tower.

Thanks man. I'll have a pic up after I shave the left over brackets. I can tell you that it's a lot of work tucking the wires on this car. The harness is all over the place and you will need to relocate things like the battery, fuse box, and other cables. I deleted many sensors and lines that I didn't care for. That one pic I have up of the bay with no harness can give you an idea though. Its much more bare than the stock mess.

Is there any way you can extend the original coil wire yourself? Cut it in half and solder in new wiring as needed and heat shrink the whole wire to make it look original? I'm ignorant and have no idea if coil wires are simply stranded copper wiring or some sort of special wiring that I have no idea about. Seems like it could be an easy fix though.

From what I've researched, keeping the wire properly insulated for the high voltage would be the issue after splicing it. I don't feel confident enough in experimenting with spark related things if it can melt or cause a fire. I can find someone who knows how to do it safely and correctly, id pay for one.

                • You can buy your own ignition wire leads and cut them to the desired length and then just crimp the plugs on. I have seen it done before and it looks fairly simple.

I've seen the kits. I just haven't found the proper ends for the wire. I've been to napa, looked at summit racing and jegs for the terminal ends.... No luck. I need a nipple on both ends, not hollowed out like on the spark plug wires.
