  • 1946 ford jailbar

    I've dropped many cars, but none ever seemed to be quite low enough. When I bought the ford it had some flaws but I saw the potential for a massive drop.
    Here is how I got it:
    -pretty fugly at this stage

    I should add that this truck has been already lowered 4" in the front and at least 6" out back by the previous owner.

    I took it down to the frame and started chopping and welding to get 7 inches more drop. I spent a few months at it and ended up with this:

    before(with the exception of the c-notch):

    after(still requiring finish welding):

    Now I ran into an issue after lowering it, the front end was into the pavement so I had to move the fenders up 2 inches to clear. I modified the core support, moved the bed floor up 6 inches, blah, blah , etc.... on with the pics

    I yanked it into the driveway to get a better look at it to make sure I was on the right track.

    the front end scraped all the way out

    I ended up lifting the suspension by removing the 3" drop blocks and installing a 1" to clear the ground and to fit the tires and wheels

    finally got the beast on the street

    I tweaked a few things, started paint and bodywork and started machining some parts to give it more style and originality.

            That dash looks pretty steampunk-y, interesting combination with the truck.

                Love that dash. I would love to have the space and time for a truck.

                            I have some cnc's at work that I can use for my own use on the weekends. I am not against hand milling, i've made a few parts for my motorcycle on a 3 axis gorton mill.

                              Thanks very much, I have been enjoying the way it looks with the weathered original paint, that is why I faked it onto the cab and doors. I'll probably finish it off that way for a "barn find" look. However, as in any project, I always want that forward motion, so when I do complete the chassis, drivetrain, bed and interior I'll likely straighten and repair the body and then paint it the original color.

                              Sometimes I feel the same way brother(see above), but having a finished ride leaves little to the imagination. Somehow the unfinished cars end up looking a little cooler because of this(in my opinion).
