  • 4-5 lug adapters/spacers are here. 2" wide to get the wheel out past the shock. These will be replaced for actual 5" lug hubs and uprights down the road, but for now these will do just fine.

I don't know if I'll even take pics with the wheels and tires under the car without being at the correct height.... It's just all wrong to me.
Tomorrow I'll be removing the rear struts and making new "hats" to get the rear end where it needs to be. I need to ditch the stock rubber strut mount insulator (2.5" thick hard rubber bumper basically) and add a raised center tower for the strut top to mount into, this will allow the stut to sit up as high as you need it to be without butchering up the strut tower itself.

              • Thanks everyone!

I had planned to move the car to a different location and call it a year, but she wouldnt start... So I ripped off the intake and exhaust manifold and did a little measuring.
I'll create a new exhaust flange this week and model up the rest of the 6-1 header using the collector pictured on the previous page. A new intake manifold is also in the works.

Below is a screen shot of the rear strut top hats that will be used temporarily to get the car at the proper right height. The stock suspension uses a hard rubber insulator, about 2" in thickness. The three strut positioning studs are located at the top, and the top of the strut itself aligns in a "D" hole and is secured at the base of the insulator. These hats will replace the rubber insulators (removing almost 2" instantly, the thickness of the new plate being 10 ga.), and move the mounting point of the strut up another 2.5", giving a total drop of 4.5" in the rear without giving up any travel. This also accounts for the 1.35" difference in height the taller rear tires will have. The same goes for the front struts, although a drop of 3.75" is only necessary.
Changing the height of the center post changes the drop height... I may do a few sets for varying driving conditions. Also, slotting the three holes would allow for slight camber adjustment. Failry simply, but should work quite nicely.

                • Amazing. This is by far one of my favorite builds. Strut hat is a genius idea.

                  • Thanks Heist, I'll post pics of the finished pieces later this week. I'm on vacation through Thursday so most likely next weekend...

No, I didn't hit a deer.... dry hands and cold weather don't play well with wrenching on a motor. The next time you see a shot of this head it will have a wire brushed valve cover (The polished look isn't for me) and a pie-cut tubular header and a new intake manifold. I really **** how both intake and exhaust ports are on the same side...

Located in Oshkosh/Appleton, let it snow! (sarcasm......)

I bolted the adapters up and threw on the rear wheels earlier this evening. It looks very rediculous... I'll wait for the front wheels to come before I take any pics. I don't want to ruin the look with the stock fronts on:-)
