    Blah blah blah.

Blah Brand New Toyota 22r blah blah. Dual Weber side drafts, a W50 trans, and "maybe" high comp pistons, and a cam should be nice also. Even better news is that it will all bolt right up.

    Time to blah.

blah. Here is a pic. Enjoy!

good to hear your sticking with toyota powaz

im sure theres some SR20 celicas down here that dont have modded fire walls ? :/

they have cheap-ish bolton turbo kits for 22R-Es over in the USofA and could also do a blow through carb setup if you were really keen on decent boosted power,

    • Car is no longer for sale!!!!! Update to previous post!!!!!!!!

There has been a big development with the car this last week.

I had sent the car out to Deft Motion to have the engine mounted in the car. It was very disappointing to find that the engine was not going to fit without the firewall being heavily modified. I have put so much hard work into this car, just to cut it up and modify everything again was not an option for me. I figured it was time for some drastic changes.

I just picked up tonight a Vintage 18RG. Been sitting in storage over 22years. Will be costly and for sure needs a rebuild but is a perfect swap for my car. Even better news is that it will all bolt right up so no chassis modifications.

Time to get this car back to its roots and back out on the road.

The car also received a good final buff and polish so the exterior will now start being assembled. Here is a pic. Enjoy!

      Expect more updates soon!!!

      • New engine arrived today. Time for a rebuild so I can get it in the car ASAP. I expect a few weeks wait on pistons and such after I get it back from the machine shop. After everything shows up i should have it together and in the car pretty quick.

          • Getting quite a collection of used 18RG parts. Hope to be making my order for the remainder of the new 18RG parts needed on Monday. Pistons, bearings, gaskets, etc. then it's off to the machine shop!

Clutch came in today also. Spec only made a Billet Aluminum flywheel for the 18RG so I had to spend an extra $100 over a steel. Oh well.

Even better news is I finally sold the SR and almost everything that went with it. Finally getting some garage space back!

              • This car is in a class all its own. Clearly, you're not cutting any corners. I cannot think of a build as clean, let alone cleaner than this one. I admire your taste, if I was building one of these I would have made similar choices in style for much of the car. The 18RG is a good call in my opinion, interesting, OEM and period correct. Is it a Yamaha or Toyota head?

Thank you. I've actually decided not to use the 18RG. It's on eBay right now.

                    • Lol! So, not so decisive on the powertrain front. Did you consider the 3sgte or was sourcing a suitable gearbox an issue? You've ruled out a 20v 4age correct? Ruled out JZgte's, ruled out SR20's. What are you thinking along the lines of? With the bay pretty much finished I think that rules out SBC and SBF and those don't suit the car and would likely upset the balance a fair bit. An NA v6? Maybe a VQ? I've always been a fan of the 4g63, maybe a gearbox from a Starion/Conquest. The 1st gen 6 bolt 4g63's are bullet proof and can make a ton of power on the cheap. Lots of tuning solutions and aftermarket support. I'm not a rotary fan but as far as packaging it would be a good option. I still think a turbo'd 4age or 4agze would be the route to go. Please don't put an F20 in it, though it would be a fun combo. Interested to see what you finally decide on.

                      • Its kind of a shame you're getting rid of the 18rg. The valve cover on that thing is pure vintage car porn.

Whatever engine choice you finally go with, I hope it sounds as good as the 18rg.

The 18RG is a great engine and is for sure beautiful. Parts are just so rare and expensive. Since I want this car to be able to drive all the time something involving less risk is best. I built the car with aspirations for 300+ horsepower and the SR fit that bill perfectly. I will be forced to cut the firewall but that something I'll live with. Switching back to the original plan for the car seems like the right thing to do. As a last resort I've considered a LSX but not getting into that right now.

The car will be covered in the garage untouched for the next several months so I have plenty time to figure things out.

I have been busy building a house the last six months so the build has pretty much been put on hold for a while. I did manage to get the car fully assembled because of the move which I just made two weeks ago. Here are a few pictures for you...

And here it is in the new garage....
