  • Audi 80 B4 avant

I need an estate/ rough daily as the 944 (this one - http://www.stanceworks.com/forums/sh...ad.php?t=20725 ) is getting knocked about too much.

Surfing ebay I find a likely candidate, poor condition, poor pics poor ad - nobody else was going to see it and it was the cheapest one I had seen, the price was silly cheap.

    The ebay pics-
    "audi diesel estate black"
(it was actualy an audi 80 avant tdi IN BLUE)

Absolutly minging inside and out, I felt sorry for my GF driving it home, though the seller kindly removed most of the litter from the car filling a large bin bag. then off we went.
We pulled into tesco to check the lights and levels before the hour journey home, no brake lights...turned out to be a fuse.
The sellers were not car people it was clear, but this was realy neglected, and they kept teling me what a nice car it was!?

Ive spent a few hours a night bringing it back to what it should be, il list the faults and how they were resolved for 80 owners,

    no reverse lights
car locks when boot is opened
    no rear wiper
    no elec mirrors

all the above is the same fault, the wires by the boot hinge broken and shorting on each other, the rear wiper shares the e/mirror fuse which was blown due to the same wires.

Front doors dropped - new pins.
    Dash bulbs blown
    Steering wheel on the p1ss
Driver seat wont latch easily - missing bush on front slide.
Bonnet wont shut fully- misalighned catch
    noisy rear wheel bearing.

Car wont pull and uses a lot of fuel-
Split boost hose turbo to cooler, I made one up.

So its now in mechanicly good and pulls well.

    But it isnt tidy.

    First off was the inside.
Stripped out, white spirit, satin black, new mats and autosol on the chrome then re fitted properly with all the screws!
    Dam tidy in there-

The damage on the front was next on the list.
2 new indicators (only 1 broken but I wanted them to match), the white paint came off with some compound and the bonnet tapped out ok, there is still a ding but I have a plan for that later..

    Before-

    After-

Then I machined the whole car and dyed the plastcs with engine oil. Most of the scratches went and it became a lovely colour.

After that I did the things that were annoying me
Removed the towbar, cut down the silly banana exhausts and removed the badges.

OBVIOUSLY the plan is to slam it with some budget dished rims, I have springs from a 2wd coupe which I think are 60mm but I'm happy to give them a trim to get it sitting right and then I should be getting ( when jag is sold) some bbs rep wheels in 9x16.

(dont flame for fake splits- this is a cheap daily)

      These-
(unless I find a set with gold centres)

I will be buying coilys but they cost a lot for B4 cars.

I went to buy the wheels today, I wanted to collect in person as I don't trust, ebay, people, banks, paypal or pictures.

When I got there, I saw wheels I didnt like the picture of that I had seen, but in the flesh it looked a lot like a speedline audi quattro wheel, and on thinking that bbs reps are done to death, I bought them.

Like I say, similar to the Audi rims, but 9J!

Thanks guys, i fitted tyres today. I knew i was doing poke so didnt require major stretch, bit i did go for 205 40 16 at first, tbh they made the wheels look too small for such a big car, ended up with 205 45, which looks right.
But i now need rear spacers bout 10mm as im hitting the innr arch on the rear when it drops.
I hope tomorow will show pics of good results
