  • Spent too much time attempting to come up with a clever title...so...

Here it is, my beauty of an Audi Coupe, circa 1985.

Truthfully, I Haaaattteed this car when I first saw it. But, seeing as though both my Cavalier, and Cirrus were dead, I needed a car. This car was owned by my uncle pretty much since it was new, and he decided it was time to move on. Free car for me - no matter how ugly.

So, for the first few months of driving 'Deloris' (as she has since been dubbed), and treating it much like you would a fat chick f-buddy, I kept it in the dark and desperately searched for a replacement vehicle. But, with time, Deloris kept impressing me. I had to keep her around. She is showing extreme signs of her age, both mechanically and visually. However, she runs like a champ, and has yet to fail me (short of the handful of times I had to push start it since it wouldn't fire up...But who's counting.) So - The build will start with a suspension overhaul, and be followed by the obligatory drop and wheels.

Planning on 16 x 8.5 et -12/-19 (not 100%, when I took measurements I neglected the tierod, so I may need the additional clearance) and building my own coil overs using mainly Afco parts.

    Le goal:

Since driving this at the moment feels like floating a sailboat through a tsunami (seriously, looks like the car has hydraulics) I just ordered sub frame bushings, LCA bushings, ball joints, tie-rods, strut inserts, mounts, and Afco #20134 coil over sleeves to start my custom coil over project. Also will be making my own sway bar end links, since they want literally an arm and a leg for them, that is, if you can find them.

Progress may be relatively slow, as this is not the only project I have going. Also rebuilding, caging, and slamming a cavalier,

    building a bobber,

among many other things... I just can't leave well enough alone.

Also kind of had a crazy idea that you should talk me out of, as it seems to be a terrible idea. A terribly awesome idea.

Talk some sense into me people!

Well, on first impressions, I disliked it. But, it's grown on me quite a bit. It's actually made me appreciate both European, and 80's vehicles a whole lot more.

Thanks. Yes, interesting would be the appropriate word to describe it, lol.

It's a '73 Yamaha XS650 that's been stretched, lowered, and hardtailed. Plans for a mono seat and a GSXR front end. Should be fun to ride when I wrap it up.

              SO... Wonderful update.

The car is dead. Well - life support...

Started misfiring badly and I rounded it down to the #3 spark plug wire. Only problem is there is still a misfire. Even though all cylinders have spark

Tested all spark plug wires, all had an ohm reading of ~6 (minus #3, which was ~16 so I replaced #3) , replaced spark plugs, rotor and cap.

Car definitely has fuel, as it smells strongly of it. All of the plugs were fouled, however.

Nothing has changed since it was running, it only sat for maybe 4 hours.

Any one have any bright ideas?

What a god damn nightmare that was...

Good news, however. Deloris is back, and better than ever!

                Just had to replace:

                Distributor
                Hall sender
#3 plug wire (wires on order)
                plugs
                cap
                rotor
                fuel filter(s)
                main fuel line (long story...)
injector o-rings and cups (f*ck you Audi... t(-.-t))
                misc. vacuum lines
                #5 braided fuel line
                misc. copper washers/ seals
                O2 sensor
                Air filter
                exhaust hangers
                K-jet ECU

Also cleaned the tank, lines, fuel distributor, and anything else that may or may not pertain to the fuel system.

Probably more... I don't remember for sure.

Seems as though computers don't like water... And there was about A FREAKING PINT of it inside the connection/case. WTF

Don't know if you can see it, but that's all water from INSIDE THE GODDAMN COMPUTER.

Suspension work to commence tomorrow, and alignment (hopefully) on Wednesday.
