Looks great. That Votex bumper is super, and the look overall with the fluo wheels is cool.
The whole time though, I was wondering why you guys didn't paint the front bumper while you were getting the Votex rear done.
Great question! Thanks for asking. We were on a time constraint. Our original plan didn't involve doing any body and paint work until before the Dallas show, Wekfest, in Oct. When the rear bumper got damaged we needed a quick fix. We were in another state about 3 hrs. away from home doing some body/paint work for a guy with a Votex jetta bumper and had to pick the parts up while there. We could only fit the back bumper and diffuser in the bug. That following weekend was our trip to Eureka Springs and my husband couldn't get to a paint booth until two days before. It needed time to cure overnight because he didn't have access to a spray bake booth. So, I only had one night to remove and install. There wasn't time for me to pull the front, do the body work (which may be quite a bit once I get in there), and then get it painted. We picked up the rest of the kit on our way back from Eureka Springs. The side skirts will need painted soon and also some shaving of emblems anyways. Just going to wait and do that all together.
You can use double-sided tape for your license plate if you don't want to drill a hole
That's a great idea, and we do use some pretty strong double sided tape at the machine shop I work at for inspection of parts, but I guess at the time I was more worried that the bumper had JUST been painted. Didn't want to pull that off and the clear come off with it. Also not sure how long it would last...I don't want my tag to fall off.
Have you tried this? I'm interested to know...honestly because it would take care of the issue.
I remember when Drew had this car. man he loaded up the dfweuros pages with it. One of the best looking new beetles imo. Id still rather rock an aircooled though

License plates are light... lots of cars have trim mouldings lip kits held on with 2-way tape. The automotive stuff is not meant to come off without a fight. As long as the surfaces are clean. It'll pretty much never stick properly if there's any grease or dirt on it.
Still, it wouldn't work great as a temporary solution, because if you take your plate off, the tape will stay on the bumper.
Nice work!!! Always wanted to build a slammed new bug. Thought it be great different project. But if I ever build one it has to be bagged and on 1018 monoblock style wheels never thought about these rims on a beetle. I am also feeling the new rims..and the tat is nice too.
Well, on with the interesting things that have been going on with the bug lately to get ready for Wekfest in Dallas this Oct and to tie up some loose ends.
We replaced the drivers side half shaft last week because it was a goner. Life of the lowered...
The air ride install was a little bit of a mess at one point. Now I am happy to say that it's come around and better than it was before. It may not be autopilot, but I'll take it over what I had.

We also started on the floor in the trunk to cover the air tank valves. We had a Kenwood head unit installed and are working on the audio side of things. Thanks to the help of our friend, Jarrod, the suede floor is finished and the sub box is on it's way.
This week, I am pulling the ECU to send off to APR for it to be fixed (hopefully), removing door panels and dash pieces to have them wrapped, and also the front and back fender/bumper assemblies while my husband is gone for work. We will paint and install the side skirts and fix a few of the other issues. I just rolled over 100,000 miles and lights are starting to come on...time to figure it all out!
When I read "New Beetle" I was hoping/expecting to see the brand new (2012) body style Bug all done up. I scrolled down and quickly realized that was not the case.....but regardless, I still read through everything and looked at all the pictures....and all in all I would say great job! I'm not sure how I feel about the rear bumper simply because I don't understand what I am looking at....lol. At one point I see you had a dual tip exhaust, and then after the incident with your rear bumper you changed things up a but. But now I don't see any exhaust....lol. Is the tip hidden away within the bumper opening?
The Votex bumper is a cleaner overall look than the stock one that got damaged. The Votex doesn't have the cut out for the exhaust or the tow hook, but are hidden instead. We had to cut the exhaust pipes to remove the tips because they were damaged. They were cut to mimick a "turn down" exhaust.
I would like to have a new new beetle, but I'm still waiting to test drive one.
