Hi guys,
Right I've been on here for a while now, dropping the odd comments etc etc.
I bought a 93 Golf VR6 about 3 months ago with dreams for something glorious.
It didnt look like your average vr6, looked more like a 8v GTI.
GTI Alloys, some poxy lil induction kit was how i bout it.
Previous owner had decided he wanted a speakers - in total i found 15 speakers/tweeters in the car ( Overkill )
Drive home was beautiful, hearing the roar of the VR6 in the quiet country roads was heart warming.
First thing was first - service and a spit shine.
The paint was faded and the lacquer was pealing from a number of areas - the plan was to respray it Nato Green
I then started to strip out all the sh***y speakers from the interior car was back to standard, took out the clarion CD player to find the audio cables had been hacked at, this was A VERY LONG task finding wat cable went where.
I gave up after getting 2 tweeters and 2 speakers working, too much headache.
On my way to Ace Cafe the radiator coolant pipe splits and bursts - resulting in me getting towed home
Started trawling ebay for 2nd hand pipes as a new set were to cost me Near enough £170.00, after searching for an hour or two i found someone breaking a back end damaged VR - straight away bought the pipes of the fella.
Next day im back on the road. Tested top end speed at a top secret track and i got to 145mph and i bottled it.
Driving back from said top secret grounds and i bang goes another pipe.
Had the spare still at home, but that on and drove it down to the garage - up on the ramp, had a funny feeling thermostatw as sticking - replaced it
New problem - She's started to overheat - the fans not kicking in
quickfix later ( wired the fan to run off a switch ) and we are back on the road
Drove about for another couple weeks until last week on my way to work she decided that after 149,000 miles enough was enough and she blew a headgasket, there i am on the side of the motorway (m40) she's slowly bleeding away and nothing i can do about it.
Had her checked over, i paid £500 for her, if i was to repair/rebuild i was looking at a cost of another £500-£700 to get her up and running again.
So yesterday after having a lot of fun with her she has been scrapped, before i had her scrapped took as many mementos as i could.
I return to my ever faitfull 6n2 Polo TDI - this beast has been with me for 4 years now and apart from the annual service has not asked for anything.
On the hunt for something different now, sticking with German and diesel but need to find the right car for the ideas to start rolling off.
So expect to hear from me soon
