  • Volvo C70 Coupe 2.0 LPT - From UK!!

Hey guys... my names matt... and im from london, england.... ive been lurking on here for a while.. just reading, researching, and perving over some of the beautiful cars... thought it would be time to show you my project......

i'll copy and paste straight from another uk forum...

let me know what you think........

    So........

you guys may remember me from THIS THREAD of my old clio......

which then led on to..... THIS THREAD about the new owner....

basically.... long story short, me and Ant, had a little deal up... so i now own a volvo :afro:

its my very first volvo, so this should be good, but also a learning curve....

this is the ant's thread -------> CLICKY CLICKY

which now leaves me here to carry on.....

little background about me... my names Matt, obviously lol... and i hardly post ops: im very much into researching and looking for other ideas... but i barely comment on peoples threads.... so you wont see me pop up much...

however, im gonna try to keep on top of this as much as i physically can....

SO.... Down to the nitty gritty......

These are pictures from ants old thread.....

which he also had these 8)

which are 35mm and 45mm custom spacers.....

SOOOOO.... on to me... after a long drive back from wolverhampton.... (to kent, for people that care lol)

i had a nice rest and set about working on the car the next day....

so i got my shit out....

    to show the width

ant also included in the sale a set of -40mm springs...

so here it is on my driveway.... standard ride height....

    what a fucking joke

i couldnt be arsed taking pics of me doing the suspension... because.. A: i didnt wanna get my camera dirty.... and B: i cant say i was in the best of moods after cutting all my hands and struggling to undo the poxy fucking droplink bars they have....

so after a couple of cheeky phonecalls and favours called upon, to borrow electric rattle guns and spring compressors...

here we have one "lowered" <---- not really as much as i hoped :| and spaced out OVLOV!

so... thats 35mm at the front... and 45mm at the back... and tbh, i think it looks SHIT!

and as you can imagine... it rubs like fuck... so i'll soon be losing the front spacers all together... and put the 35mm on the back....

    anyways....

some other shots of the inside...

ant kindly wrapped the dash in carbon before he let it go to me so i didnt have to put up with that poxy wood effect....

    dove grey leather seats

    FIRST MAJOR MOD

£12 later... and i can fuck these rusty badboys off for good 8)

    with excellent fixing/mounting brackets

    therefore, going from this......

    TO THIS...

coilovers are on the cards at some point i think... cheapest ive found so far is £540 tho maybe next month lol.

and im not sure about the wheels yet... i have had the passing thought of getting them resprayed... and then i thought about moving on entriely and getting something completely different.

    all in good time 8)

yeah, they lowering springs looked shit unfortunately... they have settled a little bit since... but not too much.... and i've changed the spacers over... so ive binned the 45mm's for now... and the 35mm's are on the back...

i'll soon be getting 205/40's for the back to match the front because the rears are currently 225/45's...

so anyways.... on with what ive been up to 8)

so it was time to put my personalised plate on.....

i thought i'd go a bit different and i had an odd bit of sunstrip material lying about... and i wanted to break the red up a bit.... so i started with this......

    roughly.....?

    so i'm left with this....

    shot of the rear........ BEFORE......

    shot of the rear.... AFTER.......

This is how it sits without the spacers at the front.... TUCK!

and the rest of the car....

note the cheap ebay grill to get rid of the shoddy volvo one 8)

fitted my hids.... dipped beam... and high beam (but no pics)

engine shots.... i've put the standard box back on... drilled it and panel filter....

you can just about see the drill holes on the box in this photo... before the slates begin... it sounds awesome!! really hear the turbo spooling!

and for the keen eyed bunch amoungst you... you will have spotted the 4gauge wiring kit....

    you guessed it.... AUDIO!

ive fucked the original volvo headunit off in space of a double din kenwood unit.... (cant remember the model number atm) with full ipod control with the adapter in the arm rest...

my "Massive Audio" 4 equalizer... which i used to have smoothed in the dash of my corsa... i butchered it up and chucked it in the glove box for now.....

the speakers use the original dolby amp with speakers...

and ive added a vibe monoblock 2800watt..... with a 15" orion sub.... because im an absolute bass-oholic!!!!

    pics to follow...

p.s. ignore the rest of the mess in the boot.... im work in the motor trade, well paint spraying... and had to do a demo at a customers on friday afternoon using my own car.... hence the spray gun, mask and overalls etc..

they are not usually in there 8)

just a cheeky shot of the leather

and a finished article for the day after a clean, a hoover and a scrub 8)

    been cracking right on....

here is what i have been up to..... i'll let the pictures do the talking...

outside, ive had the rear 3 windows tinted.... and lamin-x'd the rear lights for all red rears 8)

inside is a different story... ive had a full strip out, painted everything.... got some inspiration from a certain member on here with a blue passat.... you know who you are 8)

so as you may remember..... here are some pics of my old interior......

    BEFORE

    well, spot the changes.....

i'll give you the work in progress pics... leading up to the final one 8)

sorry for the quality of some of the pics... some of them are off my blackberry....

    floor mats

    headlining

    carpet doorcard

    first coat of black

    rooflining done

    doorcard done

carpet back in.... dash prepped and sprayed

    and again

    fitted back up

    other side

    central

    track slag? lol

pillars, grab handles and rooflining back in....

    the front

close up for all you sceptics

    rear deck

centre console back in... glove box front on.... i spy lots of air fresheners lol

got rid of the carbon wrap, i dont think it will really fit in with my new theme

once again, see you later to the carbom

    HERES WHERE IT GETS JUICY

so i masked off the inserts.... and painted the rest of the door card....

BUT DID I STOP THERE???? DID I F**K??!?!?!?!

i'll let the pics do the talking

so at work the other week.... i mix this badboy!!!

had a little spillage.... but did i let that stop me? 8)

SOOOOOOOOO..... this is how it went....

    first coat

    first coat

    second coat

a million coats later.... it didnt cover for SHITTTTTTTT!!!

    worth it though

what the colour looks like 8) p.s. ignore my hand, it looks like ive fake tanned lol... i should learn to wear a glove!

leaving a very happy me with THIS

    and this

a driveway full of parts... and only one place to put them....

so i called upon me old mate ben... and we cracked on....

    rear card fitted

rear seats and both arm rests fitted

    front seats fitted

    front doorcards fitted....

and to be honest people... thats about it..... lol... so come on... whatcha reckon?

      Riiiiiiiiight..... little update.......

      got myself a nice box

costing me a whopping.... £132 plus vat.... cough, i know some people 8)

the problem was... the only cheap coilovers i could get my hands on, wernt for my car... so as i said earlier.... i saw the astra mk4 front stuts wernt that far away..... i set about making them fit 8)

so.... my car sat like this for a while

my plan was... to strip my old shocks... cut them to peices... and use the bits i need for mounts on my new coilovers.....

why i was waiting for one of me pals to do a bit of cutting and shutting for me on the front shocks... i set about putting the astra rear springs on the back of the volvo....

looks good there... lol.... BUUUTTTT bare in mind the front is still up on axle stands... (remind yourself of this later on in the post lol)

here shows you the arch gap... standard 8)

so i didnt do any progress pics... because i didnt really do it ops:

but here is a couple pictures of a cut and shut suspension shock for you all.... with super welds for added strength....

so what he did, was cut the volvo mounts off the standard shocks... and welded them to the coilovers.... whallop! a bit of lathe-ing on the piston... and its done!

        right....

so next up... i set about fitting them......

put them on jobs a good'un.... let the car off the jacksSSSSS... in plural 8) and FOOOOK ME its low with the astra springs at the rear......

        8) mixed opinions on this... it may be FOOKING low.... but i **** reverse rake.... and the shocks were pretty much fully compressed....... obviously the weight of a volvo and a vauxhall astra are slight different... and the sprigs just sunk loads when the weight of the car went on them ops:

so i swiftly removed them and fitted the -40mm rear springs for now... untill i can find another solution that is what i will be running 8)

so i standardly went to my local tesco carpark and snapped a few pics for you boys....

p.s. i took these with my blackberry cos my digital camera was playing up... so i dont claim to be a pro with the photo quality, i apologise in advance....

so baring in mind THIS is how i got it.....

        :lol!:

i dont think ive done so bad so far do you? 8)

and for the eagle eyed lot amungst you.... mods i have done but havnt writted up include...

Front and Rear full size german font pressed plates
Took the black vinyl off the number plate insert on the boot.
Changed my rear tyre size from a 225/45/17 to a 195/45/17
        orange hawaiian necklace
and obviously a cocunut magic tree or 3

        hope you enjoy 8)

love to hear your opinions/suggestions as usual... all rates and slates welcome 8)

          riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight....

bits and bobs ive done... i've lowered the back a touch 8)

so here is a load of photos... to run you through....

          mods include...

          lowering the back
putting the spacers back on the front
          195/45/17 on the rear

and thats really about it..... just trying to nail the stace before i crack on with anything else....

          what you boys reckon?

I went out with my mate last night and ended up in cetral london somewhere, so i found a cheeky tunnell and snapped a few piccys....

Unfortunately i have the worlds gayest digital camera so photography isnt my strong point.... but here they are anyways 8)

                whatcha reckon? 8)

im considering cutting off the headlight wipers and shoving a gromit in them... as they look a bit gay imo... but then i was worried about losing the whole "volvo" touch if i do

also... im wondering what sort of wheels to go for on this... i have a set of bbs rc041's in my garage 7's and 8.5j's by 17s.... bmw pcd... BUT... someone on a uk forum said that porsche twist would look the mutts nutts....

                opinions?

at first I was very doubtful that I would end up liking this build but i gotta say the end product is pretty classy. normally I'm not a fan of just spacing the stock wheels but these suit the car very well. nice job man

thank you, it means alot.. because i was quite wary of getting disliked on here because i dont have any flash wheels or major poke or stretch yet... but... at least now the basics of a good car are there, i can work on the way it sits

thats ok, i know its not to everyones taste... its very hard to get a true reference of the colour on my lame digicam.. but i like it, and thats all that matters

lol i have had that same thought since the day i picked it up.... all my mates were like... "A VOLVO?!?!" and i had to convince them it was about being different.... in my area, people would rather spend money putting a spoiler on there vauxhall corsa's and citreo saxo's... or spending £300 a month over 5 years on a finace deal on a ford fiesta....

not really my idea of cool tbh

Looks good now it's lower, but I'm not sure about the spaced-out rear wheels. Maybe it would look better without the spacers and a little lower at the back?

I've been very tempted by a C70 recently - you can get a shit load of car for not much money it seems. How are they to drive? Plenty of power?? I heard they're pretty bad on fuel.

Interior color just needs to be toned down a shade or two and itll be great.

Also, the flowers hanging around the mirror cheapen the look IMO.
