exactly the reason for the change. 5x9 ovals will suit the car much better tucked up there and the quad oval tips will look stout back there. coupled with the new rear diffuser = money

alright, so the exhaust work got put off a few days, as i was able to get the proper size oval tubing to fab up the quad oval tips. some perfect tig welds, and these new mufflers, and the rear of this car will be ready for the start of the winter projects. Probably going to be starting them in the next week or so.

2011-2012 winter list- will change a bit:

-The motor work continues- not speaking of the work at hand yet as it has yet to be done in the states, but it will be epic!
-few holes that i left on radiator support welded shut
-battery tray removed and shaved for the completion of the bay shave
-under motor skid plate - from under front fascia to rear of the transmission
-rear diffuser
-rear suspension component change
-fabricate new tubular lower control arms
-complete brake cooling ducts
-windshield cowl redesigned- shaved version
-valve cover modifications to simplify them and what little is left of the pcv system
-one off front lip for japan spec fascia- carbon fiber
-calipers and lug nuts all powdercoated a metallic copper
-one off clock
-front seats- similar to above post
-rear upper seat modified to work with the interior scheme

thank you, yeah i have hundreds of drawings like that of parts i designed and built, and a lot of times, ideas that stayed on paper. I have an entire wall of drawings in my room from over the years. i will snap a pic as its pretty funny. I love sketching and do quite a bit of it.

i have degrees in architecture, but am leaning more and more toward industrial design, and besides the day job at the architecture firm, i started a company for design and fabrication services. links in my sig.
in the next 6 months, there are quite a few ideas that will be coming to life and being sold on the site.

I wanted to do industrial design when I was in high school, but ended up doing graphic design, I regret it now! I'd love to see more of your sketches if you can be bothered posting them up.

i will snap a few pics of the wall. hundreds of sketches over the years. for me its the only way to plan out what my ideas are. something in your head always looks a bit different when brought to paper, and this can be taken as a good thing.


so, back to the car stuff... i had some massive 4.5" stainless oval tubing produced for the quad tips, and i finally got them in my hands last night. set up one of the mufflers with the start of the tips for one side to see how i liked how it will all approximately look. needless to say, its going to be a hit when i fit a pair of these to the car.



also found a good tig welder for sale, and am looking at it tomorrow, so hopefully this will let the new work begin.

test fit the passenger side in my garage, and it needs a little bit of work to make it all fit. on my car, there are rear tow hooks that are right adjacent to the exhaust. I will need to remove them (was going to anyway as the diffuser wont work with them) and also the bumper needs to be modified a little bit.

here are some comparison pics of the mufflers, the old and ugly one being on the left. the new mufflers are 5x9 oval so they will tuck up under the bumper so much better, and once i tig the pieces together the quad oval tips should make a statement. mocked up on the foor to show exactly where the tips will sit. the funny thing is that when i mocked up the new ones in place on the car, there should only have to be minor modifications to the stainless piping on the last section of the exhaust to attach to the new mufflers. makes my life easier

Looking good bud. Ironically enough, I just redid the axle back section of my exhaust monday after hitting massive hole on the cross bronx sunday night. The stiff suspension and solid piping is no fun for a daily.

thank you guys. Dan, yeah the solid piping makes things interesting, i will say that. While the rearmost section of the exhaust is off, i turned on the car to listen to what it would be like without any muffling, and i am still speechless. the car sounds spectacular. definitely not drivable, but it is spectacular.

I spent most of the day sunday finishing up the modification process to the rear bumper. removed the 2 tow hooks, as there was no way of keeping them where they stood, and modified the bumper. Basically i cut the curved area out, moved it 2" over, and used the 2" piece i cut off the bumper to fill that slot. My buddy who owns a body shop gave me some insane stuff to work with, and a few hours later, it was all done. just like new, only now it works with the lines of the car, and can fit the exhaust. Funniest thing is that no one will ever notice this had been done, but thats not the point, never is.

you can see the right side cut and mocked up with blue tape vs left side untouched



magical product applied and reinforced with reinforcement mesh on the inside. dont worry, this gets cleaned up on the second layer of the product



heres the outside after the inside reinforcement cured.



then i did a similar process to even out the shape, and reinforce the small gaps between the pieces that were sectioned and moved



some more sanding after it cured, and its ready to be prepped for paint.. crappy pic with the passenger side tips sitting on a block of wood:





So, now i am finished up the bumper modification other then paint, and i am part way through the muffler/ tip work. The tips have been tigged together, waiting on some flat stock stainless so i can close up the back of the tips, and then the mufflers can be tigged to the tips with the 2" extensions in 2.5" dia stainless. the car is back down on the ground, so i decided to take some time and start mocking up the front lip/diffuser. it will be reinforced carbon fiber, just starting to get the shape for what i designed here. its going to get slightly smaller, but this is the rough shape. just a tease, but its nice so far in real life.
