I wasn't really sure if I should post this up, just because I have no real plans for stancing this car, but I figure some of you may be interested. I had a bit of a moment of weakness last month, and picked up a 1972 MGB Roadster. It was very much an impulse buy, but it was just too good a deal for me to pass up. It has been sitting for just over a year behind the restoration ship my brother works at, and I stumbled on it literally days before the owner was going to scrap everything.
What clinched my need for this car was the widebody someone had done. The front fenders have been widened approx. 1.5-2 inches, and probably 3 on the rear, along with running boards and a front bumper/grille that appears to have been molded off a VW Bug bumper. Here's the kicker though: every bit of bodywork in steel, done the oldschool way, over a tube frame.
How I found it:

After we pulled it out of the woods:

With a little more work it should shine up real nice.
We got the engine to fire right up with a little tweaking, but it's not getting fuel on its own.
The wheels that are on it I believe are Shelby mags, they're 13x6? on front and about 7.5 out back, with one mother of a spacer/adapter in the rear. They will be switched out eventually for wider 15" something or others, really want to keep a classic motorsport theme. I'm open to suggestions if you have 'em.
Current plans include:
All-new fuel system (lines, fuel cell, Facet pumps)
Rebuild the SU carbs, maybe polish them up a bit
All-new brake system (lines, H-manifold, master cylinder, rebuild/refresh drums/shoes in rear and discs/pads up front)
New windshield seals
MSD 6al ignition
Performance coil
Patch a couple rust holes in the pass. footwell
New top
Roll bar
Interior carpeting
Seats (Miata M leathers, or possibly E30 BMW buckets)
Battery relocation
Shortened shifter with weighted knob
Steering wheel
Down the road:
Engine conversion (I'm thinking Ford 2.3 turbo from a Mustang/T-bird)
T-5 transmission
Ford 8" rearend with 3-link
4-corner disc brake conversion
4-corner coil spring conversion (possibly coilover)
When I'm done, I'm aiming for a nice, quick, modern autocross/track car in a classic shell, that I can also take out on the town on a nice evening. Anyway, that's where I stand now, let me know what you think!
