  • Project: Ah man What did i get myself into? mk3 golf content

So today I finally pulled the trigger on a car. Decided on a 1998 Golf GL. Definately needs some work to get resurrected back to the way I want to make it. So far it already has a good start on it.
Paid 1000 for it with the following:
    -Ronal R8s powdercoated blue
    -Rokkor coilovers
    -Solid frame, floorpans, etc

    The bad:
    Typical VW Rust:
    Hatch, Rockers, Rear quarters
    Dented up front fender
Broken tail light from rolling into a garage off the trailer at low speed
Needs paint in a lot of areas
    Needs a clutch
    Needs a starter
    Needs Vaccuum hoses
Needs the radiator support replaced(Hence the trailer straps)

The goal: Low, poking, and looking great

This is going to be a slow build so bear with me as we go along.

    and now the pictures:

Ive already sorted through a lot of it, the hatch is too far gone, so that will just be replaced, the front fender is dented up and rusted so Im just going to replace that as well. the tail lights have already been sourced as well as the fender I need. The rest is all surface stuff, sand it down and get it touched up for now, getting painted over the winter when shes parked

Currently just going through and doing some mass cleaning of the car. cleaned the interior out, decided Im probably gonna ditch the seats and just replace them. so far almost all of the interior is stripped out of the car, but theres still plenty more to go.

      Pictures:

      Tail lights out for replacement

Half a bottle of tuff stuff later, all the door panels are very cleaned up, this is just one of them.

took the head lights out for easier working space, next to come off is the front bumper and fenders in order to do the radiator support that it needs to get rid of the straps.

Starting to clean up the seats, realizing that theyre just really far gone, just going to replace them or recover them.

Whole interior totally cleaned out in the front, dash scrubbed, seats scrubbed, everything vaccumed and nice and clean.

The majority of the interior just chilling outside of the car.

Next up is cleaning, cleaning, and ordering all the under the hood parts I need now. Vacuum hoses and a starter are what it needs, then the clutch comes after that

Well between moving and being absolutely broke the car kind of sat for a while. I started back at it today and put the starter in and got her fired up. I have it completely stripped down right now. no interior, no hatch on, about to remove the hood. gonna do a whole lot of body work and some paint. should be fully complete in the next few weeks. I need to pick up a few parts this week. and I should be able to finish it up relatively quickly!

The area Im in its pretty typical for rust. Im in the northeast where we get bad winters with lots of salt on the roads.
