  • ST162 Celica GTS

    Hello everyone!
Was originally planning to wait until I actually got parts for my car before posting in the build section, but I eventually decided that it would be easier to get suggestions or help on future mods in this area vs. the Introduction area, where I'm pretty sure way fewer people actually look at.

Anyways, summarized background on my car:

Once upon a time, my dad (original owner) bought this Celica at a dealership to use as a daily driver. I can remember my dad taking me to school every morning in this car, from Preschool all the way until about sophomore year of high school. After about 20 years of daily driving, and 240K miles on the odometer, the car eventually started to have overheating problems. My dad was driving me back from a summer class I was taking at a University that I'm now actually a sophomore at. Long story short, white steam shot out of the car and mom flipped out and thought the car was gonna blow up. Car was eventually towed to my house, and was left there to rust for about a year. Dad then bought a Ford Escape Hybrid, and considered donating the car, or junking it. I eventually got my license and begged my dad to give the car to me instead of donating it.
So now, here I am with my bone stock overheating car, that I can only enjoy driving around my neighborhood for like 20 minutes before worrying about overheating.

Even quicker summary for you lazy buttholes. :
    -Dad original owner
    -Many childhood memories
    -Car broke down
-Car abandoned in front of my house for a year
    -Car given to me.

    Current plans for the car:
-15x7 Enkei 92s with 0 offset or White Diamond Racing Wheels Stock Series with 4" Backspacing (0 offset)
(Am considering other low offset 5x100 or 5x114.3, 15-16 inch wheels)
-165/50/15 Federal FD1 Tires for that nice stretch or something similar
    (considering any inexpensive 165/50/15 tires)
    -Custom made coilovers
(Since there are absolutely no aftermarket coilovers out there for my car. )
-Reseal quarter panel window to keep rain water from leaking in. XO
    -mudflap deletes
    -Fix the overheating.
    -3sgte Engine swap
    -FMIC of course
-Maybe a 2.2L conversion. (Found a good deal on parts)

How my car sits right now: (Stock as F*ck)

How my car will hopefully sit in the future: (Help me decide on rims!!! )

Enkei 92s (leaning on these at the moment)

White Diamond Racing Wheels (or some type of widened steelie) (the original plan):

Random Jeep wheels on craigslist :

And a license plate frame just waiting to be put on my car! (Waiting til I'm dumped before I rock it)

    What do you guys think?

Oh, and one question I've been wanting to ask:
Does anyone know anything about doing hub swaps or hub redrilling? I want to switch from a 5x100 to a 5x114.3 bolt pattern, but I don't want to use spacer adapters because I don't want to have fender flares or excessive negative camber to keep my wheels from poking out too much.

    Thanks a bunch guys!

Lol nice! Actually, the 5 lug is kinda disadvantageous for me since I'm looking for low offset 15-16" wheels, and the only ones I can find usually are 4 lugs...

Still not sure what causes the overheating yet... Will hopefully find out soon.

This has the potential to be very, very awesome but could also turn out quite meh.

I hope my expectations will be filled. Looking forward to seeing more! I love these gen Celicas.

The upside to the Diamond steels is that you could get them in your bolt pattern, made to spec. And they'll probably still be cheaper than nice Enkei 92s.

But the 92s, or other mesh style would definitely look much better (imo). See if there's something similar that the MK3/4 Golf and Jetta guys are using. There's got to be something.

                  @kartikeya
Yep. Diamonds will be about $100 cheaper than Enkei 92's with adapters or wheel redrilling. And I agree with the 92's looking nicer too.

                  @Madhatter

If all goes as planned, I should get a 3sgte swapped in it in about 3 weeks. Debating on whether to bore it from 2.0L to 2.2L (found a good deal on conversion parts) or just leave the motor stock with normal rebuild since this car's just gonna be a daily with some extra punch.

Thanks for the comments so far guys! Really appreciate them.

Anyone know what the difference between ARE meshies and Enkei 92's are? (Couldn't find anything with the search tool...)
They look the same to me...

                        Thanks guys!

I'd go with the 92's. Steelies are a little too 'budget' to go on such a clean GTS. Love your sense of humour haha. your mom thought it was going to explode.

                              oh moms.
