just to add my 2c to the discussion on notches (for the good of this build, if the op does a bigger notch in the future), i think that a properly engineered 'square' notch (not literally square, one that isn't round and flowing like oxer posted) is usually completely fine if designed correctly. the most common thing i see on forums of american trucks is that people don't weld in fishplates to strengthen the joins. these are fairly important, particularly if you're going to be putting loads on the back of the tray or chassis (ie. if you want to ever tow something or load the tray up).
on the australian rules, they are some of the harshest in the world, yet i don't understand how they let people grind the welds down smooth. unless you've got extensively documented evidence of the weld quality pre-grinding, i wouldn't go near a truck with polished chassis welds in critical areas, as you simply can't see if they are any good or not (ie. after grinding, a poor-penetration weld will look identical to a perfect weld).
keep up the good work, you've built a great looking minitruck so far, and it looks like you're going to keep making it betterLast edited by 340i; 01-01-2012, 08:59 PM.sigpic

hey that's pretty uncalled for and you're pretty much making american's look like dickheads with that attitude. stanceworks is not a place for saying crap like that, so you should go find another forum to troll on please. oxer is just giving good engineering advice, which is relevant wherever you are. im pretty sure the laws of physics and the properties of materials are the same in america as they are in australia.

majority of them don't even know the laws and regulations when it comes to modified cars
but every once in a blue moon you will find someone that doesHatchbacks, wagons... It's NOT all the same. You want in? Don't get a mazda 3, get a mazda 6 wagon. Don't get a wrx get a legacy wagon. and theres a reason the A3 isn't called the A3 avant... Scion does not make a wagon it makes a weird van, but no wagons
Sincerely,

P.S. Is your tail a wagon?

keep on truckn whatshername! purely personnal opinion, but you should lose the hubcaps and paint up your steelys....go for the hotrod look! i powdercoated mine red and bought some whitewalls for them, they look sweet, gets heaps of positive feedback! as for the pinstriping, i reckon you should try a little wet'n'dry sandpaper to cut it back, should come off pretty easy (as long as it ain't under the clearcoat), then all it will need is a buff and you'll be good to go! failing that, try visiting a panelbeater or signwriter and offering them a box of beers to use, what they call a caramel wheel, which goes into the chuck of a drill and when you buff the pinstripe, the heat and friction from the spinning gets rid of any old unwanted pinstriping, they use it all the time to get rid of that shit!
