  • Alpinweiß e36 328 sport - UK car

hi people, ive been lurking on here for a few months now and just thought id sign up and get a thread going..

copied from another thread ive got going..

I bought the car in mid december

So ive just got in from viewing an e36 328.. I had a red one lined up and was supposed to be picking it up on the weekend but the guy was messing around and ended up saying he was going to keep the car so that was that out the window..

I went straight back on pistonheads and had a look around knowing that i wanted either red/white or something different i.e an individual

I came across a white auto model which i had seen a couple of weeks back but didn't consider it, anyway i thought i might as well have a look as it wasn't too far away. It turns out its not too bad at all and after working him down on the price over a couple of little things i left a deposit.

Originally i wanted a manual but seeing as this car isn't being built for speed it didn't bother me and the auto box seems pretty good, will rev straight up to the red line in sport mode no problem and it still feels fairly quick which was a surprise and sounds better than other 328's ive heard.

Its not the highest spec e36 ive seen but the colour is fairly rare and it has some nice touches which swayed me towards buying it.

    Spec

    Genuine 328 sport model
    BMW Alpine white no.1
    Full m'tec kit
m3 evo exhaust mated upto the 328 downpipe
    m3 front splitter
    328 half leathers
    Xenon kit
    Staggered rc041's and 042's
    coilovers
    NO RUST! :P

Ive been looking out for some BBS RS's for the last month or so knowing that i would have eventually got an e36 so when some came up on here for a reasonable price i picked them up asap..

    anyway..

    and the wheels lined up

    BBS 302's 17x8's et 40

the offsets are quite high so gives me plenty of room to play with when it comes to spacing them out..

the rears will be 9.5j so these had to be ordered..

    and to finish up

some 185/35's for the fronts and 215/35's for the rears, i always like to have matching make tyres all round but in this case nankang are the only company that make the 185/35 so i had to settle with them.. not that you will see the sidewall when they are buried in the arches

    a bit of inspiration..

I am picking the car up on saturday and the tyres should be here then aswell.. not too sure about the rear dishes as they are coming from germany, hopefully ill have it all together by the end of next week..

    update 2

i just slipped up majorly, i did agree to take a break from buying parts but these just had to be done..!

they wont be grey though, orange or something would be nice a bit different from the norm

the deal is i am going to dye it a different colour, ive done it before with better results than expected. i went for the grey leather as its easier to dye than say a black one. the standard colour chart is below, im thinking one of the tan colours or maybe maroon but its hard to tell from a picture..?!

anyway so ill have a half leather 328 interior available soon if anyone wants it?

      update 3

      right so a little update

today i just tried on the wheels to work out what spacers to buy..

wound the front coils down all the way with the helper spring still there, not quite low enough though

      so this came out

      and the result

bit of tuck?? just ordered some 20mm spacers to make the wheels 17x8 et 20

how good does an rs cap look on the rc wheels? got something special planned for these :smt002

and a slightly different and tbh quite shocking look lol. e46 m3 wheels with 215/35's

cant wait to get the rear dishes and the tyres through..!

its needs to go slightly lower but ive only adjusted one corner so hopefully with all 4 wound down it will level out slightly lower, if not the second adjuster might have to come out

        update 4

i need to get this colour ordered for the interior but im so torn between red or tan

i was up for tan and ive always loved the cinnamon colour in the e46's but then i saw a picture of red vadars.. which look immense

those vadars are just the boss tbh

            update 6

got a couple of bits through today

fresh mats to replace the rubber ones that were in the car.

spacers, maybe should have gone for 25mm but these 20's could always go on the back, gunna run them for a bit and see how it goes once the backs are on..

spent a bit of time making the bottom as flat as possible, dont want anything catching the floor really

still havnt touched the backs so the whole thing might go a bit lower.. chassis rails are about 25mm off the ground haha

gotta be careful having it too low, it tends to make the e36 shape look stretched and out of proportion, once the wide rears are on it should be ok though :P

              update 7

split the rear wheels down.. heat gun came it use as it didnt fit in the oven!

spent some time cleaning them up with scotchbrite, making sure theres no old sealant, dont want these leaking at all

picked the seats up late last night, nice 5 hour round trip

took an hour out to go green laning haha

                update 8

right so the dishes are still not here!! but i got on with the interior today..

ive only got as far as colouring it but it still needs sealing up which will take the glossy finish away and it will be satin.. happy with it atm should look nice in the car

base coat of colour, no turning back now, kind of scary

                2nd coat, getting there

                and done

                love the colour combo :P

drivers seat, was in pretty bad cond. now good as new

                first coat

                second

                done

                old and new

i was going to try and save the 'm' stripes but it would have just looked messy, besides its not an m3 and its not trying to be one!

                more to come

                      done

i was offered a full e46 cinnamon interior yesterday for a very good price so i couldnt resist, this will be going in my next e46 m3 which im planning for next year, shame its a different shade to the e36 seats, i could have put the fronts in.. B)

finally got the rear dishes through today!

trialled one on the car but it gets dark fliping quick so bad pics.. :

took the adjuster seat out of the rear coils, should be low enough once its settled..

should be wide enough, and i can always put a 3,5,8mm spacer in there

just need to build them up now, ill get some tiger seal tomoz..

i built up the rears tonight..

got to wait 24 hours for the first layer of sealant to dry then wait another 24 hours then they will be ready for tyres!! cant wait should be sunday or monday

layer of sealant on the inside edge of the dish before its bolted on

then a layer over all 3 parts

managed to break one bolt but im hoping it will be ok to put it in after.. if it leaks ill get some tyre weld in there
