Got Stat, Stat!
It turns out that there was no stat in my housing, which would explain the 155 temp on the highway. In South Africa where these engines are built and raced, they do so without stats 'cause it's so damn hot. I guess they thought this was warranted here. At any rate, I picked up a Milano stat housing, the stat, along with the gasket and installed it. It opens at 180 and as part of this latest baseline test, I flushed the rad and ran 100% distilled water for the prelims.
Spider warmed up faster and she was A LOT happier around 200-215. That resulted in more cam pops, more power and better fuel rate. When the temps reached 180, I hit the fan and left it on for the duration. Tonight's test run involved hot lapping one of my street circuits and temp climbed to 220 with a bit of idling mixed in. When back on, temps dropped fast all the way to 180 in about 20 seconds. Then returned to 210-220 once hammered. Basically, it's still quite an erratic range but I don't know if that is fine or not. Probably because the fan is on continually. I only had about 20 minutes time total for tonight's testing before returning to the warehouse.
So no highway runs were factored in to see how low it would go. So I will have to complete that another night with the 100% water still in there for a baseline before I start swapping percentages with straight coolant to see where that goes.
Obviously, the higher temps are expected due to just distilled water in the system. But I wanted to see that range first. Also, I will be flushing the block as well to cover that end and factor that in before swapping in coolant.

Spider + 5.0 = Not So Routine Traffic Stop
Spider - "Well hello there, Ossifer. I've been expecting you."
This was awesome!!
5.0 - "First off, this thing is gorgeous!" Beautiful job, Sir. But I sill need your drivers license, ownership and insurance..."
I mean, as soon as I saw 5.0 pull out from a side street behind me, I was like, "Yup, Here we go...." The Spider basically summoned 5.0 with that 3.7, nasty drop and curvy lines!!!!
I was then asked to "step out". Yeah......right there I got the "tingleys", 'cause that's never a good sign. Well, to my surprise, it was for me to explain the car and what was done to it. During the explanations, 5.0 just stood there with jaw in hands!!
After a very brief run down, I thought I was gonna get off. But instead I was issued a ticket for the sticker tag and nothing for not running a front tag. On top of that, I was even given 2 weeks to get the rear sticker tag straight and the ticket would be withdrawn. So no consequence as I was lined up to do that next week anyway.
But before heading back into the Spider, I took this shot. Y'know...for the upcoming collection.
After that it was right back business as usual. I rolled into a facility and flushed the rad and block free of a bunch of crap to improve the cooling capabilities. Now I can plan for that 3 core copper rad and oil cooler. These two upgrades along with the new stat, should put the Spider straight in the cooling dept.
So concludes yet another night of testing and improvements. And to my surprise, the bay temps actually dropped by 10 degrees!!
As my Bro, Short says to me all the time, "God! She's such an attention wh0re!!"
