Street, this just keeps getting better and better with every detail you fabricate. the front end is really shaping up quite well, and I can really appreciate the amount of time and dedication that you are putting into these latest bits. This thing is going to be absolutely epic when complete, and so far things really seem to be paying off.sigpic

"A less- assuming enthusiast probably wouldnt even think that this Z ran because of how naked the engine compartment was. The motor looks as if it just floats there, with nothing else in sight." Super Street 9/2012

Thanks jakkerd! I also was not impressed with my efforts. That day, aside from working on the car was very, very long.Originally posted by jakkerd View PostNew bumper design looks much better.
Love this build.

Thanks Joshbm! Yeah, the mesh didn't work out as planned. Looked better on paper. But as one-off and indepth builds, there's bound to be do-overs.Originally posted by Joshbm View PostOmg this just keep looking better! glad you changed the bumper design didnt really like the mesh effect.

Thanks Bro! This has been a long week and I'm so exhausted. Haven't even been able to sleep much with my mind keeping me up thinking of my next move on the car. The fabrication work is new to me and I'm doing the best I can. All in all, it's a learning curve.Originally posted by 1badg35 View PostStreet, this just keeps getting better and better with every detail you fabricate. the front end is really shaping up quite well, and I can really appreciate the amount of time and dedication that you are putting into these latest bits. Front Intake Tweaks Cont.
Work continues on the front end treatment into the next stage - refinement.
First off was the stiffer templates introduced for further mocking. Presenting: The fangs!
Watch them appear!
After I was satisfied with the general shape, I removed them along with the center panel and traced them to help realignment.
The latest evolution of the fangs.
Then I began tracing out the two central sections in favor of a single unit.
Then I jumped into another version of the heart's slates - on the bumper instead of the rad tunnel.
When the spacing looked proportionate, I cut them down and secured then with just enough tension to nudge them into corrections.
Then I put everything back together including the now one piece central unit and took a shot without the emblem to see how it looked. Fangs were left longer for adjustment room.
Fang's edges then cut down and seen from the side for spec check.
Then with the emblem. Not everything is in line. More tweaking is needed. I'' most likely redo the fangs as the outside edge does not have enough roll to match the bumper and central unit.

As always the car is looking great. I was really looking forward to how the front end would come together and I am really liking the direction you re going.
If you don't mind me asking, what plans do you have for the finish on the fangs?

Thanks Sticky4! I wanted to take a Spider where no one else has even tried to. In the beginning, I asked this one guy for some simple information. He declined. I said, Ok...and went to war!!Originally posted by Sticky4 View PostNot sure how I missed this build until now, but holy crap.
Looks unbelievable, way to be original.
Can't wait to see more updates.

Spider Update.
Continuing with the refinement on the front end. Today I cut out a port for sump cooling at the bottom of the main panel. I also sourced the mesh I was looking for. This mesh is perfect as it'll allow for all the cooling I'll need as well as wiping out the distracting lines of the rad and fan.
Keep in mind, these panels are mere mocks. The real-deal ones will get CNC'd or lasered.

Love seeing updates on this.
I'm really glad you take your time (although you move a damn good pace), and consider functionality along with the aesthetics. That is the true testament of BUILDING a car.
I really hope to see this car in person so I can really appreciate it. Sad to think that there is a good chance that I may not.
Keep up the good work street!

Thanks PMcD! Esthetics are good. Form is good. Getting both of them working together? Well, that takes ingenuity and creativity - a balance that's not easily achievable and what I strive for. Not to mention the details. Anyone can slam a car on half decent rims. But I want WAY MORE than that.Originally posted by PMcD View PostLove seeing updates on this.

Spider Update.
While studying the latest shots last night, I realized that a lot more subtle tweaks were needed.
In today's update, here's what was altered:
Enlarged the bar between the sump and rad port by a 0.25 inch.
Shortened the height of the main panel by 0.5 inch.
Enlarged the sump cooling port by 0.25 inch.
Moved the vertical curvature of the main panel inward by 1 inch.
Shortened the sump cooling port horizontally by 1 inch.
Relocated the main panel's lateral edges back by 1 inch.
Increased the curvature of the main panel by 0.75 inch.
Much better flow now.
