Spider Plenum Mock - Cont.

Had a chance today to develop the plenum port a little better. The best mounting for the intake tubing would be to have it connect off a wall and tube. A U-channel flange with a 3" correcting tube (50-50 split) will get cut and welded into the plenums end and allow for quick and easy disconnect.

With that, I received the tubing today. It's a very tough, double ply neoprene, reinforced with a spring steel wire and UL 94V-0 flame retardant. It's not your average flexible tubing. As an added bonus, it has a very smooth interior when pulled taut for flow.

Disregard the placement of the plenum, as it's not secured in position for the shots.

Thanks ImAwesome! It's a lot to go through as I've been told before. But I wanted everything in one spot. If you're ever sick and stuck in bed all day, it's makes for really good entertainment!!

Spider Plenum - Final Product Mock

Closing in on the last few fabrication stages for the plenums. Today I transferred the mocks to a thicker aluminum stock, cut them out and mocked the final pieces together to check fitment.

After lining up the 3 main sections on the engine with the trumpets in place, I secured the pieces and mocked up the front panel that will house the ducting joiner.

Here's the front panel as it's exterior gaps are attended to.



Masked gaps and marked off for cutting.



That template was then transferred onto the thicker stock as well and test fitted to the plenum.



The part that took the longest, was getting the angle just right to avoid hitting the hood, cam gears and blocking the dip stick while maintaining a smooth air transition.



From here, a 4" hole will get water jetted for the joiner.

Finished mocking the plenums in place, ran the ducting through fenders and located filters after them. From here, it's jetting out the plenum ports then welding.



Then I ripped out the stock gauges



and started mocking with the speedo.



Then with 1 of 6 secondary gauges.



A quick template will then help me determine the layout I'm after.

Gauge Mock

Here's one concept for the gauge pod I was working on - recessed gauges with punched ports. It's more integrated and avoids the "afterthought" look that a lot of installs have.

I'll be working on more drafts and will be working with a metal fabricator to go through my options for the best overall presentation.

the clock off the the side looks like an afterthought. also 6 is too many. 5 at most, 4 suggested.

Unless I am missing something here, you have added 2 extra gauges, just like Rebound has said. Speaking of gauges now, has the thought of going digital crossed your mind? That way, you won't need to add extra gauges should you decide to modify your car further in the future, plus, it looks cool ^^ .

Nothing planned shooting wise. I'm just concentrating on getting it to the testing stage.

That way, you won't need to add extra gauges should you decide to modify your car further in the future, plus, it looks cool ^^ .

This is no show car, show n' shine parker or slow roller. It's built for abuse.
Gauges are critical and I need to know all that's going on at any given time. This is just a small part of the functional aspect of the build.

Spider Update

Test fitted joiner from tubing to plenum. Plenum goes to welding very soon after the intake port is jetted.



Also, completed the wiring for the gauges and tested with the speedo and oil pressure units.
