  • The low & slow daily - VW Mk3

Since my Touring will be taken off the road for a rebuild soon, I'll need something to drive in the meantime... so I bought this today, but I'm only going to pick it up once I've found a workshop where I can work on my BMW... so either January or February.

    Specs:

    '94 Golf New Orleans
    1.8l AAM 75hp
    Automatic
    Stahlblau Metallic
Body's got ~185.000kms, engine unknown since it was replaced with a used engine 50.000kms ago.

Body is absolutely rust free except for the front fenders, one of which also has a big dent. Brakes came new just a few months ago. New wintertires. And still TÜVed until July 2011.

Car already has a set of FK coils and the rear fenders are rolled and very slightly pulled (previous owner ran the car slammed on 8x14 ET15 with 205/45/14 and 9x14 ET10 with 225/40/14).

    I think I got a steal for 730€.

    What I'm planning so far:

-replace both front fenders due to a small rust spot on the driver's side and the big dent on the passenger's side one
-replace the clear headlights and turns with smoked OEM units
-replace the dark tails with blue Hella Magic Colours
-replace the exhaust with something not as ugly
-probably Borbet A or something similar in 7.5 and 9x16
    -camber shims for the rear
-replace steering wheel with something different

great start, you have a good base to work on!
only thing i can't help but wonder, the 1.8 75 hp engine is slow as hell, with the automatic on does it even move at all?

          It must be.
My mother drives a '99 58hp Renaul Twingo. With an automatic gearbox. THIS thing is slow as hell. 0 to 60 tooks like forever.

I'm not really lookin' forward to this one here, because i think or hope you will spend most of your money on your beemer

It's enough to keep up with traffic.

            Top speed is around 165kmh / 102mph

Of course I'll spend most of my money on the Touring.

But I can't leave this thing unattended. The damaged fender has to go, the ugly exhaust has to go and since it came without summer wheels, I need some... and since the rear fenders are already rolled with a slight pull, I can just stuff something with nice sizes under there. Currently thinking Borbet As or Azev As in 7.5x16 front and 9x16 rear with 195/45 and 215/40.

imho borbet a's only look good when they are trown away, and on mk3's they are worse. azev's look very good, i would go for those, wanted those for my mk3. i would also suggest bbs mahle like so:

this is a friend's car the reason i even like the mahle's
hopefully these links don't upset anyone, i just could find pics that would upload here

I didn't really look for a Mk3 at all. Originally I was looking at B3 Passats. This one popped up and I just had to have it because it used to be one of my favourite Golfs back in the day. It used to be crazy low on 8x14 and 9x14.

ps why u kickin out the steering wheel

Cause I **** small steering wheels like that.

                    -------------------------------------

So, finally going to pick it up on the 5th february, no time really before then.

Also, don't even have the car yet, and I've already bought parts for it.

Blue Hella tails and side indicators for the fender. Rare shit.

                      Someone please delete this thread.

Deal has been called off, won't be happening. For further reasons see my thread concerning my Touring.
